JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Teen Services (DTS) will provide programming and services on a daily basis that ensure the safety of teen youth and prepare Club members for success. The DTS will understand and implement the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast, be knowledgeable in the “5 Core Areas” of programming (character & leadership development, education & career development, the arts, health & life skills, and sports, fitness & recreation), mentor and guide teens, teaching them to make positive decisions and be a positive role model. The DTS will maintain an appropriate standard within the Club sites, provide support to the Regional Club Directors and Club Directors, if applicable, under general direction of Administrator of Programs & Services; be a mentor to volunteers and other staff members, and be able to build positive relationships with youth and parents.
Requirements:
PREPARE YOUTH FOR SUCCESS
- Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes for teens.
- Promote and stimulate daily teen programs participation as well as participation in designated national and special events programs. Programming should be appropriate, in correlation with our organizational values, and yield active engagement from members and staff involved.
- Orient new members to teen programs, special events, and opportunities as well as to club safety, program and disciplinary rules.
- Provide Boys & Girls Club programming and outreach for teens at local schools.
- Provide guidance and role modeling to members, which includes adherence to dress code.
PROGRAMMING
- Plan, develop, implement and evaluate overall programs, services and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives alongside club member needs and interests.
- Evaluate Club programs and maintain records to track program attendance and participation.
- Ensure a healthy and safe environment; ensuring facilities, equipment and supplies are maintained.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with parents, community leaders and organizations.
- Develop and maintain public relations to increase visibility of programs, services and activities within the Club and the community.
- Facilitate full teen participation in the annual NYOI survey and lead improvement initiatives based on results.
SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP
- Promote excellent leadership qualities and lead by example by ensuring on-going communication with teen members.
- Set expectations for all teen members fairly and consistently in alignment with Club policies and procedures.
- Hold teen members accountable for behavior choices while coaching and communicating the benefits of making better choices.
- Ensure safety and respectful behavior during all off-site and out of Club teen activities.
- Recognize teen members for program participation and achievement.
- Resolve all program compliant issues, exercise authority in problems relating to club members, as well as adhere to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast (BGCMCC) Behavior Management Policy.
ADMINISTRATION
- Maintain a clean and tour-ready building and ensure a productive environment, maintaining an inventory of all program equipment and supplies in good order.
- Manage facilities; ensure the equipment and furnishings are set up in a manner that is safe and healthy for staff and club members.
- Manage program areas in a manner that holds teens accountable for club cleanliness.
- Submit supplies and equipment requisitions two (2) weeks prior to need.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and maintaining personal networks. Other duties as assigned.
- Ensure all Teen Focus grant requirements are met and assist with gathering initial information for grant applications.
- Oversee teen social media content, incorporating teen contributions and working closely with the Marketing Director.

RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal:
Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel.
External:
Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, member's parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to promote the Club.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Minimum of 18 years of age; BS/BA from an accredited college or university with a minimum of two (2) years relevant experience working in a Boys & Girls Club; or an equivalent combination of knowledge and experience.
- Demonstrates knowledge of principles related to youth development, including an understanding of group dynamics and effective discipline as related to the population of youth served by Boys & Girls Club.
- Verified skills in program development and assessment. Competent with core functions, culture, and issues pertaining to youth programs and development.
- Ability to engage and develop positive relationships with youth from diverse backgrounds; knowledge of coaching strategies and program evaluation techniques.
- Direct supervisory skills to effectively lead, motivate, and manage staff in a dynamic working environment; recruit, and onboard staff; conduct performance evaluations and mediate conflicts.
- Demonstrate ability to organize, budget, plan, and implement projects with multiple deadlines.
- Experience in tutoring and mentoring children or youth; motivate, engage, and manage behavioral challenges with peer mediation.
- Work ethic to be responsible, accountable, provide follow up, complete tasks, and meet deadlines in a professional manner with accuracy and on schedule.
- Proficient computer skills – Microsoft Office, email, internet research, social media navigation.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Successful completion of pre-employment background check.
- Valid Driver’s license.
- Occasional weekend and evenings in support of fundraising events, committee meetings and activities.
- CPR, First Aid Certification obtained within 90 days of hire.
