POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manager of Radiation Therapy is responsible for overseeing the daily clinical and technical operations of External Beam Radiation Therapy within the Radiation Oncology department. This role ensures effective coordination of clinical services, staffing, and workflows while partnering closely with physicians, physicists, dosimetrists, and interdisciplinary care teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.The Manager provides leadership in regulatory compliance, fiscal oversight, performance improvement, and staff development, while promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. This position also leads multidisciplinary initiatives to support advancements in Radiation Oncology technologies and treatment delivery in alignment with CCSF’s mission and values. The role is primarily clinical, with administrative responsibilities performed based on patient care and operational needs.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs and manages radiation therapists and clinical staff in the safe and accurate delivery of high-energy radiation treatments, ensuring adherence to prescribed treatment plans and optimizing patient outcomes.
  • Continuously assesses the accuracy of treatment delivery and monitors patients' physiological and psychological responses throughout the course of treatment, proactively escalating concerns to nursing staff and radiation oncologists to prevent complications.
  • Develops safe and efficient staffing models based on patient volume, ensuring optimal patient and staff safety at all times.
  • Manages daily treatment schedules, optimizes patient flow, and ensures timely equipment functionality, coordinating minor maintenance as needed to maintain uninterrupted clinical operations.
  • Oversees simulation setup, including documentation, immobilization device construction, and CT-based treatment planning to ensure reproducibility and accuracy of patient treatments.
  • Provides coaching, performance feedback, and clinical training to radiation therapy staff, identifying individual and team development opportunities and implementing targeted improvement plans.
  • Leads and actively participates in departmental and organizational quality improvement programs, managing clinical practice variation to improve efficiency, accountability, and patient safety outcomes.
  • Analyzes operational and clinical data to drive strategic planning, resource utilization, workflow improvements, and evidence-based practice implementation across the department.
  • Ensures accurate and complete documentation of treatment records, operational reports, and billing in the electronic medical record, maintaining compliance with HIPAA, False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, and Stark Law.
  • Collaborates with radiation oncologists, medical physicists, dosimetrists, nursing, and administrative staff in case reviews, care planning discussions, and multidisciplinary team meetings to deliver coordinated, comprehensive patient care.

Requirements:

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or completion of an accredited Radiation Therapy Technology program with active RTT certification
  • Minimum of five (5) years as a Radiation Therapist with a preferred minimum of two (2) years of leadership experience within a Radiation Oncology setting.
  • Preferred experience working with the following systems and technology: Aria, GE Simulator, Varian TrueBeam, VisionRT, and Epic


REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSE OR REGISTRATION:

  • Active, unrestricted Radiation Therapist license issued by the State of Florida
  • Current certification and registration as a Radiation Therapist (RT(T)) through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, maintained without lapse


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS OR ABILITIES:

  • Advanced expertise in radiation therapy techniques and modalities, SBRT, SRS, and IMRT, IGRT and SGRT.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of radiation safety practices, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards at the state and federal levels.
  • Proficient in radiation oncology EMRs and linear accelerator technology.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and process improvement to enhance clinical efficiency and patient throughput.
  • Expertise in treatment setups, including documentation, immobilization device construction, IV contrast, and CT Simulation utilizing 4D respiration gating.
  • Proven ability to lead highly specialized, multidisciplinary teams and foster a collaborative clinical environment.
  • Skilled in coordinating radiation therapists, physicians, physicists, dosimetrists, and administrators to support streamlined operations.
  • Strong analytical skills to optimize treatment efficiency, patient flow, and resource utilization.
  • Effective strategic leader with sound judgment, decision making, and problem solving capabilities.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills.
