We are currently seeking a Thrift Store Assistant.
General Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Lead Sexual Assault Services Advocate, the Sexual Assault Advocate will provide crisis counseling and advocacy to survivors of sexual assault, human sexual trafficking and crisis counseling to incarcerated survivors. They will co-facilitate sexual assault support groups through psychoeducation and art within the jail and/ or prison facilities and meet all OES-SA contract requirements. This employee coordinates and facilitates community education (bringing awareness about Tri-Valley Havens services) and prevention education (healthy relationship, anti-trafficking, and affirmative consent classes) at local schools.
General Requirements: Bachelor's degree with one year's experience working with survivors of sexual assault. One-year experience in a non-profit setting. Excellent writing ability; public speaking skills; intermediate to advanced computer skills. Ability to work independently, manage time and tasks effectively. Knowledge of violence toward women and childrens issues. Bilingual/ Fluent Spanish preferred. Completion of Agency Training within 6 months of employment (if not before). Must be comfortable with serving incarcerated survivors in a jail setting.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
CLIENT ADVOCACY
- Provide assessment of clients who require services.
- Serve as back-up to ensure client needs are met.
- Provide ongoing advocacy and case management services to sexual assault clients and their significant others in the community, within the jail system, and at Tri-Valley Haven sites.
- Accompany clients to social service, court and other appointments, as needed.
- Respond to crisis line calls and serve as back-up for the crisis line.
- Respond to SART (sexual assault response team) calls at Highland and Washington Hospitals as needed.
- Keep monthly confidential client records.
- Conduct support groups for survivors of sexual assault.
COMMUNICATIONS
- Contribute to Blog posts. Update and improve presentation materials as needed.
- Assist with special events coordination, such as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month Activities.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION
- Conduct prevention education classes in local area middle and high schools as needed.
- Conduct community education presentations as needed.
- Submit service statistics at the end of the month to the Director of Sexual Assault Services for reporting purposes.
- Schedule and complete one ride-along per year with officers from local law enforcement agencies.
GENERAL TASKS
- Maintain Sexual Assault Advocate Status by attending at least 8 in-service trainings per year, and provide advocacy services as needed in conjunction with community presentations.
- Participates in agency meetings and special events as needed.
- Must have an insured automobile that employee will use as necessary for agency related business.
- Must maintain a good Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) in order to be able to drive for the agency.
OTHER RELATED TASKS AS ASSIGNED BY THE Director of SEXUAL ASSAULT SERVICES OR THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WITHIN THE SCOPE OF TRI-VALLEY HAVENS MISSION.
