Job Summary:
The Safety Generalist will help drive continuous improvement in overall health and safety performance while promoting an interdependent organizational culture. The intent of this role is to lead and effectively integrate health and safety processes/programs into the overall plant strategy while maintaining compliance with all applicable federal, state local, and corporate safety laws and standards. Provide Safety expertise, and practical support for Safety Excellence to ensure we have a rigorous safety program that protects the safety of our employees, contractors and visitors at all times. Further, develop technical solutions to improve Safe manufacturing capabilities. This role requires working within a single but complex manufacturing structure at a plant level and aligning with corporate requirements to ensure safety standards are maintained. The work is multi-dimensional in the areas of regional support and corporate regulations and compliance. It involves influencing sustainable change in cultural and technical aspects of our manufacturing at all levels of the organization. Management involves working in a streamlined matrix organization structure with plant safety and corporate safety teams driving solutions in cooperation with the entire site functional groups and their respective resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support creation and implementation of Safety Policies, including maintaining a “production floor” presence observing compliance with these policies.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Investigating accidents and near messes, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective actions
- Maintaining accurate records of safety incidents, training, and audits and preparing reports for management
- Facilitate the development and maintenance of facility emergency response plans and ensure that all affected employees receive training as needed.
- Coordinate and deploy Safety Improvement training that appropriately targets all levels of the organization.
- Support and maintain comprehensive assessment of manufacturing capability for Safety – determine current performance and capability. Work should include all aspects of manufacturing operator tools, process equipment, facility operations, maintenance and introduction of new technology.
- Support and maintain a Safety Strategy that drives and delivers an improvement roadmap and facilitate the development, implementation, maintenance and improvement of required safety, and health programs and processes.
- Contribute to the development of consistent Safety Standards for all manufacturing areas that align with Toray Industries and incorporates local codes and regulations, for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Contribute toward the driving of the Safety Governance process to ensure Safety Standards are aligned with plant initiatives and metrics are being implemented, maintained and sustained.
- Lead and support a joint company and employee driven Safety program, providing coaching and guidance to ensure the plant is aligned with federal OSHA guidelines, corporate safety strategy and other regulatory requirements. Provide guidance and expertise in conducting safety, health and environmental (support) risk assessments for new or existing processes or equipment. Support the introduction of new products and processes into the facility.
- Facilitate and provide guidance and expertise for the development of a world class safety culture within the facility.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree OR High School Diploma / General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) and/or at least 6-8 years of production/manufacturing
- Knowledge of OSHA, OSHA VPP, PSM, ISO14001 and other relevant regulations and standards.
- Organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
- Information utilization and the ability to use electronic databases such as Vector.
- Knowledge and experience in Safety Regulatory and Legal requirements and industry direction.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Time management; both organization and presentation skills.
- High level Proficiency in Microsoft applications specifically Excel, Word, Access & PowerPoint
- While infrequent, this job does require the ability to travel.
- Ability to occasionally work a non-routine schedule.
