Overview:
The Fleet & Transportation Manager plays a vital role in overseeing the company’s fleet operations, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and cost-effectiveness across multiple locations. This individual will manage fleet assets, coordinate vehicle maintenance, implement tracking systems, and ensure adherence to DOT and FMCSA regulations to support business operations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assign vehicles to drivers and ensure they meet licensing and training requirements.
  • Oversee scheduling, maintenance, and repairs of fleet vehicles to optimize performance and compliance.
  • Monitor vehicle telemetry data and driver behavior, identifying opportunities for improvement. Work with Safety Director to identify and assign driver trainings.
  • Investigate and resolve fleet-related issues, including breakdowns, accidents, and compliance violations.
  • Manage fuel/maintenance cards, proof of insurance documents, registrations, and decals for fleet vehicles.
  • Coordinate and install fleet management systems (FMS), including GPS trackers and telematics solutions.
  • Implement and administer leading telemetry and telematics software packages for fleet monitoring and compliance.
  • Conduct internal audits to assess vulnerabilities and deficiencies in fleet processes and documentation.
  • Negotiate contracts for fleet sales, leases, vendor procurement, and preventative maintenance.
  • Monitor fleet usage, fuel consumption, and overall costs, implementing strategies to enhance efficiency.
  • Train drivers and fleet personnel via in-person and online sessions, ensuring safety and compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, local regulations, industry standards, and FMCSA compliance.
  • Provide reports on fleet performance, utilization, and cost-effectiveness to management.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • Extensive experience in fleet management, DOT compliance, and transportation operations.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Expertise in FMCSA regulations, risk management, and safety compliance.
  • Proficiency in fleet management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience implementing fleet tracking and telematics technology.
  • Strong vendor negotiation and contract management experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with drivers, vendors, and management teams.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with fleet tracking systems and telematics technology (GeoTab)
  • Prior experience using fleet management software such as Element, Fleetio, or Holman Insights.
  • Background in fleet auditing, training, emergency management, and regulatory compliance.
