● About Facility:

● Unit Information:
o Beds: 40 beds
▪ Census? Average patients/day? 36
o Minimum Years of Experience required? 2 years
o Will you accept a first-time traveler? No
▪ Due to the complexity of our patient population and the fact that this is a teaching hospital. We request that we receive travelers with at least 2yrs of experience
● Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
o Patients with solid tumors of head/neck, bladder, kidneys, stomach, pancreas, lungs, colon/rectal
o Post surgical Oncology patients
● Patient Ratios:
o RN: 1:4-5
o CNA: 1:10-12
● Required Licensure & Certifications:
o RN: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (Resource Team Requirement)
● Skills required:
o Trach/Lary Care, Surgical Drains (JP, Hemovac, CT, Foley, Ostomy, Urostomy) Central line maintenance, dressing changes, wound vacs; PCA pumps, Epidurals, chest tubes
o Heavy Cardio Thoracic (more Thoracic) surgical
● Support within the Department:
o CNA: Patient rounds at least every 4hrs to complete: VS, drain collections, blood sugars, and complete daily cares. Daily tasks include but are not limited to weights, baths (with CHG), linen changes, assistance with meal ordering, and assisting with ambulation
o Unit secretary from 0730-2330
o Charge nurse/Resource RN – 90% of time are free floating
o Phlebotomy: Phlebotomy tech completes routine rounds on the unit. However, STAT and timed labs will fall under the nurse's responsibility if phlebotomy is not present
o No IV team but we do have a VARs Team accessible during the day
o RT 24/7
o There is a resident or assigned provider 24/7
o Central telemetry monitoring
● Technology/Equipment:
o EMR: Epic
o IV Pump: Alaris
o Med dispensing: Omnicell
o Monitors: Philips and Visi (a continues monitoring system for BP, HR, O2, Resp Rate and skin temperature) but Visi will be replaced soon
● Floating: If yes, where?
o Within the cancer center first, then to any med-surg unit within the hospital.
o 5 Facility Float Clause - Emergency Only
● Orientation (facility and unit):
o NEO
o 2 days departmental
● Scheduling:
o Weekend rotation: every other
o No call
o Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
o RTO: can approve up to 7 days, must extend contract to accommodate
o Shift times: 0630-1900 (days) or 1830-0700 (nights)
o Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
