The Assistant Superintendent supports the Superintendent and/or Senior Superintendent in the execution of field operations on a hyperscale data center project. This role is responsible for assisting with day-to-day jobsite operations, including safety compliance, subcontractor coordination, schedule adherence, and quality control, from mobilization through project closeout.
The Assistant Superintendent plays a critical role in maintaining the high standards required for mission-critical construction, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans, specifications, and client requirements. This position may have Foremen or trade leads as direct reports and interfaces daily with subcontractors, inspectors, and client representatives.
Requirements
Preconstruction Planning & Mobilization
- Become fully familiar with the project safety plan, emergency procedures, and site-specific requirements for a hyperscale data center environment.
- Assist with jobsite mobilization, including temporary facilities, access control, signage, and logistics planning.
- Document existing site conditions and adjacent areas prior to the start of construction activities.
Field Operations & Subcontractor Coordination
- Assist in supervising daily field activities across multiple trades, with an emphasis on MEP, structural, and architectural scopes typical of hyperscale facilities.
- Coordinate subcontractor work to ensure alignment with the master schedule and short-interval plans.
- Attend and contribute to daily huddles, weekly subcontractor coordination meetings, and preparatory meetings.
- Monitor subcontractor performance related to safety, productivity, workmanship, and compliance with plans and specifications.
- Support logistics coordination for material deliveries, laydown areas, and site access.
Safety, Quality Control & Compliance
- Actively support enforcement of all jobsite safety requirements, including PPE, permits, and safe work practices.
- Assist with safety audits, observations, and corrective actions.
- Monitor quality control activities and assist with inspections, testing coordination, and documentation.
- Ensure permits, bulletins, drawings, and revisions are properly posted and communicated in the field.
Schedule & Progress Management
- Review and understand the project schedule, including key milestones and critical path activities.
- Assist with tracking daily and weekly progress, identifying potential conflicts or delays.
- Support short-term planning efforts (look-ahead schedules) and report progress or issues to the Superintendent.
- Assist with maintaining accurate daily reports and field documentation.
Contract Administration & Cost Controls
- Review subcontract scopes of work as needed to support field execution.
- Assist with coding invoices, time tickets, and field cost documentation.
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of timesheets and field records.
Project Closeout & Turnover
- Assist in supervising punch-list activities, final inspections, cleaning, and demobilization.
- Support turnover documentation and closeout activities in coordination with the project team.
Other Duties
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent or Senior Superintendent.

Desired & Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- 2+ years of commercial construction experience, preferably on large-scale or mission-critical projects.
- Exposure to MEP-intensive projects and multi-trade coordination.
- Working knowledge of construction scheduling principles and field execution.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic familiarity with scheduling or field management software.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software (Procore, BIM 360, Bluebeam).
- Strong math, reasoning, comprehension, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent use of hands and arms for handling materials, documentation, and technology.
- Occasional lifting of items up to 20 pounds.
- Work performed in both office and active construction site environments, including exposure to outdoor conditions, dust, noise, vibration, and typical jobsite hazards.
- Must be able to view computer monitors and project documentation regularly.
