Overview:

Global macro diversified alternative investment manager is seeking an Emerging Markets Economist/Strategist with 7 to 12 years’ relevant experience to join the Americas team. The new hire will provide coverage of major Emerging Markets economies, including Brazil, Mexico and South Africa. The seniority of the role will be tailored to match experience level of new hire, and the role will report to our Chief Americas Economist in the New York office. The new hire will engage through regular meetings, presentations and exchanges of ideas to have direct impact on Portfolio Managers and the overall exposures of the Fund.

Responsibilities:

  • The Americas team conducts analysis of macroeconomic data, political developments and geopolitical news in key economies, interprets their meaning for financial asset prices, and presents investment opportunities to the senior portfolio management team.
  • The new hire will provide ongoing coverage of major Emerging Markets economies, including Brazil, Mexico and South Africa, and will discuss and collaborate with senior Emerging Markets Portfolio Managers on opportunities in Frontier Markets.
  • Requires a deep understanding of Emerging Markets economies, with an ability to pivot between different economies and identify pertinent cross-country trends and themes.
  • Attend field trips to gather local intelligence and frequently visit MKP’s Miami office to discuss investment opportunities with Portfolio Managers.
  • Analytical responsibilities include data analysis, quantitative modelling, forecasting of specific macroeconomic variables and broader scenario analysis.
  • Provide support to Chief Americas Economist, where necessary.

Qualification:

  • 7 to 12 years’ relevant experience working with in the industry, including on Emerging Markets economies; deep understanding of Brazil is a plus.
  • Comfortable developing and voicing opinions within a highly collaborative culture.
  • Willingness to travel, including for field trips to gather local intelligence and to MKP’s offices to liaise with portfolio managers; pre-existing contact networks in key Emerging Markets is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics or Finance; Master’s and/or PhD a plus.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical and financial modeling skills.
