Purpose of the Position

The Technical Writer – Front-End Capital Projects is responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering high-quality technical documentation to support early-stage project development. This role combines strong technical writing capabilities with practical experience in front-end engineering phases to ensure accurate, consistent, and effective communication of project scope, design basis, and execution strategies.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • UPDATE or develop, edit, and maintain technical documentation, including:
    • Project Execution Plans (PEPs)
    • Design Basis Memoranda (DBMs)
    • Operating and control philosophies
    • Engineering standards and specifications
    • Reports supporting feasibility and FEED phases
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and project management) to gather and validate technical information.
  • Support front-end project activities, including:
    • Scope definition and clarification
    • Development of deliverables for decision gate reviews
    • Alignment of documentation with project objectives, cost estimates, and schedules
  • Ensure consistency, quality, and compliance with company and client documentation standards
  • Prepare information and participate in Assurance Reviews, workshops, and project meetings to capture key decisions and changes.

Job Requirements

  • Experience in oil & gas
  • Proven experience in technical writing within industrial or energy-related projects.
  • Proven experience in technical writing within industrial or energy-related projects.
  • Strong understanding of engineering documentation such as PFDs and P&IDs, Control philosophies, equipment, and system descriptions.
  • Ability to interface effectively with engineering and project teams.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Background in engineering or technical discipline (Instrumentation, Process, Mechanical, or similar).
  • Familiarity with project stage-gate processes and capital project workflows.
  • Experience working with document management systems.
  • Able to work in the Alaska time zone (AKT) for most of the day.

Terms & Conditions

  • Position starts with 2 to 4 weeks in Anchorage, and then could be remote
  • Project Duration: TBD
  • Work Schedule: 40 hrs./week
