Job Description
Pet Dog Trainer (Client-Facing) — The Dog Wizard | St. Johns, Florida
We’re hiring a mature, self-motivated, highly organized dog trainer who delivers strong results with dogs and confidently manages pet parents. This is a client-facing role. If you’re strong on training but weak on follow-through, documentation, and communication, this won’t be a fit.
What you’ll do
- Train dogs to The Dog Wizard standard (obedience, manners, behavior modification, including reactive/aggressive cases when appropriate).
- Deliver programs across:
- Private lessons
- Group classes
- Day Training / Board & Train (as offered at our location)
- Manage the client relationship end-to-end:
- Set expectations clearly and professionally
- Provide consistent progress updates (text/phone/email/video)
- Coach owners for follow-through at home
- Provide graduate support and identify next-step training needs
- Run a tight operation:
- Accurate notes, schedules, and follow-ups
- Organized training plans with measurable outcomes
- Represent the brand locally:
- Community events, lunch-and-learns, partner relationships, referral development
Who we’re looking for
Must-haves
- Proven dog training experience (professional or equivalent track record)
- Mature, reliable, self-directed (no micromanagement required)
- Highly organized (clean notes, proactive follow-ups, strong time management)
- Excellent client communication—calm, confident, and clear, even with stressed owners
- Ability to work safely and effectively around challenging behaviors
- Comfortable with CRM/scheduling tools and basic tech (daily documentation and communication)
- Professional appearance and demeanor with clients
Nice-to-haves
- Experience running group classes and working behavior cases
- Strong sales instincts without being pushy (helping clients choose what they truly need)
- Comfortable creating simple content (short training videos, progress updates, community-facing posts)
Compensation (transparent and performance-based)
- W-2 hourly + commissions (commissions are paid after programs are completed and fully collected), plus clear bonuses (reviews/referrals/events).
- Typical earnings: New trainers generally land around $48k–$55k/year once ramped; experienced trainers typically land around $55k–$65k/year, depending on caseload and performance.
- Upside: Top performers earn more through higher production, strong client outcomes, reviews/referrals, and longevity increases.
What success looks like
- Dogs improve, and owners follow through because you coached them well
- Clients feel informed, supported, and confident
- Your schedule stays clean: no chaos, no missed follow-ups
- You protect the brand: safe handling, consistent standards, no shortcuts
Work environment
- Fast-paced, client-focused, high standards
- High autonomy with real accountability
- Some evenings/weekends required (client schedules and dog training demand it)
How to apply
Send:
- A short intro on why you’re a fit for a client-facing trainer role
- Your training background (where/with whom/how long)
- Credentials/certifications (if applicable), plus two references
- (Optional but strongly preferred) a short video of you coaching an owner or working a dog
