Inpatient/ER Medical Coder Inhouse/Remote
Department: Business Office FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Business Office Manager
Position Summary
The Medical Coder will be responsible for inpatient coding and OP procedure/emergency room coding as determined by workload requirements and the Business Office Manager.
Essential Functions
- Codes visits in accordance with applicable standards as assigned by the Business Office
- Works claim denials as assigned by the Business Office
- Maintains schedules & reconciliations as
- Audits encounters for appropriate documentation and communicates needs to providers with follow-up.
- Retrieves information as requested from records, email, minutes, and other related documents; prepares written summaries of data when needed.
- Responds to and resolves administrative inquiries and
- Performs other related duties as
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED
- Current coding credentials through AAPC or AHIMA related to IP and ER
- Minimum of 2 years experience, experience with CAH Method II facilities is a plus!
- One to three years of experience in an administrative role
- Knowledge of medical billing is beneficial
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to
- Basic understanding of clerical procedures and systems such as recordkeeping and
- Ability to work independently.
