Summary: Develops and improves manufacturing processes by studying product and manufacturing methods.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.
- Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
- Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
- Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
- Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
- Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. .
- Provides manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
- Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
- Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special service.
- Maintains product and process database by writing computer programs, entering data.
- Has a good understand of Engineering Bill of Material (EBOM) and Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOM).
- Works with Design Engineers to accomplish manufacturability of product.
- Provides engineering assistance to outside suppliers to accomplish product or project.
- Has a good understanding of Steel and Welding.
- Completes design and development projects by training and guiding technicians.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Always comply with applicable safety guidelines by correcting hazards, informing supervisors, or recommending guidance to co-worker(s) to avoid injury or damage to employees or equipment.
- Complies with all applicable company policies.
- Performs related work as required.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in Engineering; 5+ years of experience in the steel industry and have broad knowledge of steel fabrication processes; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, engineering prints and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine business reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups employees of organization.
Ability to speak Spanish and/or Portuguese preferred but not required.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. An ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form such as engineering prints and deal with several abstract and concrete variables such as when enforcing company policy within union guidelines or engaging in problem solving for fabrication processes.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work with people to improve performance and meet standards required. Proficient with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office programs. Experience with CAD programs with preference for CREO.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus in order to read, determine quality of work in process and for observance of safe procedures in Fabrication shop.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions in the Paint shop, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat from welding and cutting equipment, risk of electrical shock, and risk of ultra-violet radiation from welding arc. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
