JCSU is seeking a mission-driven Veterans Services Coordinator who embodies our commitment to service, innovation, and community. Key Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions

  • Serve as a dedicated advocate and liaison for Military and Veteran Students, offering programs, mentoring, counseling, and connections to campus and community resources that support academic success, belonging, and well-being.
  • Partner with Admissions and Recruitment, Financial Aid, the Registrar, and Communications and Marketing to inform, recruit, enroll and support Military and Veteran Students throughout their academic journey.
  • Assist the Office of the Registrar by ensuring timely processing of educational benefits, serving as a secondary certifying agent.
  • Clearly communicate benefits, resources and opportunities available to Military and Veteran Students and their families.
  • Support the management and programming of the Veterans Hub and advise the Veterans Student Association (VSA), helping cultivate leadership, engagement and community.
  • Contribute to the development, coordination and implementation of Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) and Joint Services Transcript (JST) activities in alignment with SACSCOC requirements and CAEL standards.
  • Maintain and analyze CPL/JST records to support data reporting, assessment and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with Deans and Department Chairs to integrate CPL/JST practices across academic programs, ensuring consistency, quality and student-centered approaches.
  • Lead and coordinate campus-wide military-affiliated observances, including 9/11, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and military-themed athletic events, reinforcing JCSU’s commitment to honoring service and sacrifice.
  • Represent the University at local, regional and national military-focused conferences, trainings and base-affiliated job/college fairs.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of Veterans Services programs and contribute to monthly and university-wide reporting, including SACSCOC documentation.
  • Support departmental planning, budgeting and evaluation efforts.
  • Foster an inclusive, multicultural and respectful environment that reflects JCSU’s values and commitment to equity.
  • Participate in professional development and university/community committees as assigned.
  • Guide and supervise student employees, including Work Study students, student workers, interns and practicum students.

Additional Job Functions

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission, vision and evolving needs of Johnson C. Smith University.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree and at least three years’ experience in counseling, social work, or related field is required. A Master’s degree is preferred. Requires two to five years of demonstrated related experience with working in Military or Veteran’s Affairs and a good understanding of the recruitment, engagement, retention and record-keeping of/for Military and Veteran Students. The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered. Qualified Veterans are encouraged to apply.
