Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) Cardio-Pulmonary Unit
Henrico, VA | Contract | Days | 36 or 48 Hour Guaranteed Time Equivalency

This opportunity is designed for experienced RNs skilled in stepdown nursing, specializing in cardiopulmonary care. You will provide advanced nursing interventions to patients with cardiac and pulmonary conditions, supporting their recovery in a 27-bed PCU (Progressive Care Unit). The role requires strong clinical judgment, the ability to manage cardiac drips and hemodynamic monitoring, and the compassion to support patients and their families through complex care situations.

Responsibilities:

• Perform ongoing patient assessments, synthesize data, and develop and evaluate care plans.
• Administer medications, including titrating cardiac drips (excluding vasopressors), and monitor vital parameters using bedside cardiac monitors.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for patient care coordination and educate patients and caregivers about treatment plans.
• Respond adeptly to rapidly changing clinical situations using evidence-based clinical judgment.
• Float to other units as needed to assist with stepdown patients.
• Utilize equipment such as Alaris pumps, Hoyer lift, BiPAP, PCA, and GlucoStabilizer confidently.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

• Current RN license in state or compact eligible.
• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications required prior to direct patient care.
• Minimum of 1 year nursing experience, preferably with 6 months in acute care.
• Experience managing cardiac drips and patients with chest tubes, hemodynamic monitoring, and temporary pacing.
• Strong communication skills and culturally sensitive care delivery.
• Ability to pass EKG exam at orientation (study guide provided).

Schedule:

• 36-hour guaranteed time equivalent
• 12-hour day shifts
• Every other weekend and major holiday coverage required
