Location: Specialty Hospital Hancock – Greenfield, IN
Contract Length: 13 Weeks | Accepts Local RNs
Start Dates: 9/15 & 9/19

About the Facility
Specialty Hospital Hancock is a 23-bed long-term acute care (LTAC) hospital specializing in critical illness recovery and extended stays. Patients here require complex, high-level nursing care in a smaller, team-oriented environment.
Assignments are acuity-driven, and nurses must be comfortable working with critically ill patients at ratios up to 1:6. The hospital provides an interdisciplinary support team including RTs, wound care specialists, therapists, case management, and pharmacy during business hours.
Patient Population

Unstable cardiac status & telemetry monitoring
-
Infectious disease, multi-system complications, medically complex care

Neurological conditions, brain & spinal cord injury
-
Pulmonary/ventilator liberation, trach/endotracheal tubes, mechanical ventilation & weaning
-
Renal disorders & wound care (including VACs)
-
Prolonged surgical recovery & uncontrolled diabetes

Orthopedic conditions
Procedures & Equipment
-
Ventilator & Trach Care: Skilled in suctioning, cleaning, and management
-
Wound Vacs: RN care with wound team handling dressing changes
-
Central Line, NG/OG, and Foley Management
-
Respiratory Devices: Bipap, Highflow, Vapotherm
-
IV Drips: Administration, titration, monitoring
-
Telemetry: Independent monitoring required
Required Experience
-
ICU or strong PCU background OR extensive LTAC experience

Ventilator & trach proficiency
-
Code management (patients not transferred out)

Charge and wound care experience preferred
-
Strong telemetry interpretation skills
-
Compassionate, team-oriented, and reliable with excellent communication & critical thinking skills
Important to Know

Ratios: Up to 1:6, census-driven

Charting: Paper charting & timekeeping

Environment: High acuity, close to ICU-level care

Safety: Line/tube vigilance is critical

Scheduling: Self-scheduling allowed, must work every other weekend

Support: Wound care M–F, pharmacy during business hours, house supervisor for escalations

Nursing Responsibility: Mobilization of patients outside of therapy sessions
