Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A K-12 school located in the Chico, CA area is seeking skilled Sign Language Interpreters to facilitate communication and support students who are hard of hearing or deaf. This contract position spans the current school year, with an anticipated end date in late May 2026. The role requires onsite presence during school hours, approximately 6 hours per day, equating to about 30 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting to enable effective communication between students, teachers, and peers.
- Support students academically across subjects such as reading, writing, and math.
- Assist with vocational and life skills development as needed.
- Monitor students during classroom and outdoor activities to ensure safety and engagement.
- Collaborate with educators and school personnel to create an inclusive learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf or a score of 4.0 or above on the EIPA, ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI assessments.
- Candidates with an EIPA score under 4.0 may be considered and designated as an ASL Para.
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) with an Associate's degree is also acceptable.
- Experience working in elementary and intermediate school settings is beneficial; candidate preference will be considered when possible.
