Refrasil Operator
Job Summary:
Prepare various broad goods, tape, cordage, rubber and yarns to customer specifications.
Schedules:
A -Shift: 4 am. - 4 pm., Sunday – Tuesday (week 1), Sunday - Wednesday (week 2)
C-Shift: 4 am. - 4 pm., Wednesday – Saturday (week 1), Thursday – Saturday (week 2)
B-Shift: 4 pm. - 4 am., Sunday – Tuesday (week 1), Sunday - Wednesday (week 2)
D-Shift: 4 pm. - 4 am., Wednesday – Saturday (week 1), Thursday – Saturday (week 2)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Read, interpret and work with detailed written instructions and procedures.
- Process glass yarns involving operations such as skeining, pump leaching, washing, draining, coating and drying of yarns, and leaching various weights and weaves of cloths.
- Process glass fiber cloth and fibers, involving such processing as caramelizing, continuous leaching, re-rolling, lift and drain leaching, washing and drying and firing.
- Operate and control support equipment associated with leach lines such as the tank farms, acid recovery and neutralization, and filter press (waste) management.
- Process rayon fabric involving skeining, pre-carbonization, continuous firing, acid dipping, washing, and grading.
- High temperature oven treating yarns, fibers and cloths.
- Process carbonaceous materials involving low temperature tank carbonizing, re-rolling for graphite firing, and batch oven final firing of carbon and graphite cloths, yarns, webs, and chopped fibers.
- Start-up and close-down all equipment, threads-up and monitors equipment feeding and take-off operations.
- Move material between warehouse and factory and between operations.
- Prepare various production and quality reports and maintain logs.
- Prepare samples for quality and performs other quality inspections such as measuring for thickness, length and weight. Visually inspects material for defects and non-conformities.
- Perform minor maintenance and reports malfunctioning of equipment.
- Operate single and battery textile skeining and spooling machines. Selecting and mounting rewind skein stand or cores, bobbin, or spool, mounts winding stack, thread machine, adjusting tension, and winds to proper size and weight. Splices, cuts off and ties as required.
- Visually inspect, grade, pack, weigh, label and store finished products.
- Actively participate in work and problem-solving teams, identifying goals and process improvement opportunities.
Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret written documents such as standard task procedures.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
- Use of group decision-making and problem-solving techniques in a team environment.
- Follow verbal instructions.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
- Customer and vendor communication.
Required:
- High school graduate or GED.
- Consistent job tenure on resume.
- 3 years’ manufacturing experience.
- US Citizenship.
- Submission to lifetime background process.
Physical Demands:
- Stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
