Position Title: Southeast Ohio Regional Liaison

Classification: Full-time

Reports to: Regional Director for Southeast Ohio

Organization Summary: The Sustainable Ohio Public Energy Council (SOPEC) seeks candidates for the position of Southeast Ohio Regional Liaison. SOPEC was established in 2014 and serves member communities and political subdivisions across the State of Ohio. SOPEC has a strong commitment to sustainability and the advancement of the renewable energy economy. SOPEC is governed by the members it serves.

Position Summary: The Southeast Ohio Regional Liaison position will primarily be focused on serving SOPEC member communities and political subdivisions throughout their region. The Southeast Ohio Regional Liaison establishes and maintains communication for mutual understanding and cooperation with SOPEC member communities and political subdivisions. The position will assist in the continued development, growth, and service to SOPEC member communities and political subdivisions in Southwest Ohio.

Job Description: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Serves as the liaison for the region, establishes and fosters relationships with the existing and new member communities, local officials, and various partners.
  • Supports the efforts of the Regional Director.
  • Serves as a main point of contact, answers and fields questions from local member communities and political subdivisions.
  • Attend local governance meetings, which may include evenings or other non-traditional working hours.
  • Schedule regular touch point meetings with local government officials and other partners.
  • Attends local Chamber, Mainstreet, and other community and regional meetings and events.
  • Engage with the SOPEC General Assembly members from the communities and political subdivisions and assist with the SOPEC community grant program.
  • Helps to promote and increase participation in SOPEC programs within member communities and political subdivisions.
  • Supports the SOPEC grants team, including in the grants application process and the implementation of the resulting programs.
  • At least 40% travel within their assigned region and within Ohio as needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the organization.

Education and Experience/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in political science, environmental studies, marketing, economics, business, public administration, or another relevant field. Relevant experience in conjunction with a degree in a non-related field will also be considered.
  • Candidate must live in or be willing to relocate to Southeast Ohio.
  • Candidate must have a valid drivers license, meet the state minimum insurance requirements, and have reliable transportation to travel throughout the State of Ohio and SOPEC member communities as required.
  • Familiarity with solar, renewable technologies, and electric vehicles is desired but not required.

  • Competency in Microsoft, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, and Google applications.
  • Ability to travel as required with mileage reimbursed by SOPEC.

Personal Work Relationships: The Southeast Ohio Regional Liaison will have daily contact with co-workers in the organization, elected and appointed officials, members of the news media, and the general public. The purpose of these contacts is to provide helpful information about the activities of the organization and to promote strong public relations for the organization.



Working Conditions: Work is performed in a normal office setting and/or remotely. Work is also sometimes performed at local government meetings across Ohio, and regular driving and travel time will be required.



Compensation: This position is full-time and benefits-eligible, including required contribution by employee and employer to the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS). A background check will be required.
