Title: Carpenter
Department/Location: Facilities Department/Elsah Campus
Position Type: Full-time, 12-month
Summary: Performs high quality carpentry in a variety of settings, including the maintenance and alteration of academic, athletic, and dormitory structures and equipment, and the maintenance and repair of historic buildings. Performs skilled finish work ranging from repairing and rebuilding doors and windows to the construction and installation of cabinetry, counter tops and furniture, drywall, and other miscellaneous carpentry related tasks. Concrete experience with flatwork, finishing, and masonry repairs.

Primary Responsibilities
- Performs systematic and routine maintenance and repairs to exterior and interior structural components of buildings, including walls, doors, windows, and roofs.
- Repairs, adjusts, and replaces (as appropriate) door and window hardware including locks, door closures, weather stripping, windowpanes, and related components
- Repairs and maintains a variety of furniture ranging from historic pieces to modular office systems
- Installs cabinets and other wood trim requiring advanced carpentry skills
- Performs minor remodeling to offices, student dormitories, and college owned faculty/staff housing
- Repairs a variety of floors including hardwood, ceramic, quarry tile, and vinyl composition
- Performs regular roof inspections.
- Keeps supervisor informed of all substandard and unsafe structural components
- Ability to learn and maintain electronic door lock systems.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, climbing ladders, and working from and operating elevated mobile platforms (scaffolding, lifts).
- Responds to afterhours emergencies as an emergency response team member or individually for access control support, snow removal, etc.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Five years experience in the carpentry trade with journeyman level carpentry skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and positively in a diverse work environment
- Ability to effectively work independently or in teams
- Ability to use all power and handheld carpentry tools safely and effectively
- Ability to solve problems and recommend appropriate solutions
- Ability to use WO ticketing system on a tablet or computer
- Must be capable of working indoors and outdoors throughout the year, periodically in inclement weather.
- Physical fitness with no physical limitations: Must be able to lift 80 lbs., and carry 70 lbs.; ability to climb and assist in moving 40ft ladders, in accordance with job analysis and physician’s approval during pre-employment job physical
- A valid driver’s license

Compensation and Benefits
We offer a competitive starting salary range for this position: $27.00 - $30.00 hourly, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
