Mechanical Designer (HVAC/MEP) – 2–6 Years Experience

Location: Twin Cities (Hybrid Flexibility Available)

Position Overview

The Mechanical Designer will support the design and development of HVAC and mechanical systems for a variety of building types. This role works closely with engineers, project managers, and clients to deliver high-quality, code-compliant designs from concept through construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design HVAC systems including air distribution, hydronic systems, and equipment selection
  • Develop construction documents using Revit and AutoCAD
  • Perform load calculations (heating/cooling) and assist with system sizing
  • Coordinate with electrical, plumbing, and architectural teams
  • Support project teams through all phases: schematic design, design development, and construction documents
  • Assist with site visits, field investigations, and construction administration tasks
  • Ensure designs meet applicable codes, standards, and client requirements

Qualifications

  • 2–6 years of experience in mechanical/HVAC design within a consulting environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) preferred
  • Experience with Revit (required) and AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with load calculation software (Trane Trace, HAP, or similar)
  • Understanding of building codes and HVAC system design principles
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Preferred (Nice to Have)

  • EIT certification (or working toward it)
  • Experience with healthcare, commercial, or mission-critical projects
  • Exposure to energy modeling or sustainability initiatives
