Adult Services Librarian

Part-Time Temporary

Work Schedule:

  • One (1) - 19 hour per week position. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends

Essential Duties:

  • Provides professional front-line library public service work using all types of communication resources, including print, non-print (DVDs, audiobooks), Internet and electronic resources
  • Delivers one-to-one technology instruction and small group technology instruction including supporting patrons in using mobile devices and public computers.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers and library customers
  • Provides reader's advisory assistance
  • Uses authoritative resources to answer questions and make referrals
  • Assists full-time Librarians with collection maintenance and programming support.
  • Provides exceptional customer service in person, on phone and by email
  • Interpreting, explaining and upholding library policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree required. or Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited library school preferred. At least one year of experience in a library or related setting providing customer service to adults; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish relationships with the public and provide effective customer service in a professional manner
  • Skill in proactively using technology to perform job or enhance customer experience
  • Ability to deliver one-to-one and small group technology instruction
  • Skill with diverse software applications and ability to learn new technologies independently.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software as well as Windows and MAC operating systems
  • Experience with Android and iOS mobile devices
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgment, and discretion in performance of duties
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of sources and materials in both print and electronic formats and searching methods and procedures

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a library environment.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and/or push materials including full book carts, book bins, and lifting tubs weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, tablet, telephone, and e-reader
