Job Description\n
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with an active CA license, ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certification for a night shift position in a Level II trauma facility.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
- Work in an 11-bed Medical ICU (RICU) within an acute care, Level II trauma center
- Typical patient diagnoses include ARDS, sepsis, chronic vents, ETOH withdrawal, DKA, CRRT, therapeutic hypothermia, and IABP
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:1-2
- 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required
- May float to CSICU and all critical care units across five Sacramento facilities, operating only within scope
- Travelers are first to float; mid-shift floating to other facilities is rare but possible
- Cardiac skills preferred; experience with CRRT (Next Stage) preferred
- Use of Drager and Hamilton ventilators, CPAP, BIPAP, and Phillips tele monitors
- Nurses must read and interpret EKG strips
- Cerner used for charting; experience preferred but not required
- Self-scheduling is used but finalized by management; block scheduling is not available
- Primary nursing model with safety attendants (sitters) available
- Charge nurse typically does not take a patient assignment; robust leadership and support
- Hospitalist and intensivist coverage in-house 24/7
- Respiratory therapists available in-house 24/7
- Pharmacy available in-house 24/7; ICU pharmacy on day shift
- Dress code: navy scrubs with navy, white, or black undershirts; optional navy scrub jackets
- Unit orientation includes shifts in Medical, Trauma, Neuro, and Surgical ICUs
- Holiday shifts rotate with core staff
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates may not have been employed by any facility in the CommonSpirit system within the past year

- Active CA RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years recent ICU RN experience
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Dysrhythmia exam (Dys exam) must be passed prior to contract; prior exam within 12 months accepted
- Must titrate vasoactive, sedation, heparin, and insulin drips
- Ability to read and interpret EKG strips required
- References required: one supervisor reference from within last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from within last 3 years
