Job Description

Job DescriptionThe Special Education Program Specialist provides support for the instructional program for students with special needs; provides pertinent information and consultant services to staff members and parents; and provides ongoing student assessment and evaluation. Coordinating assigned special education program components and related activities, providing information to general education staff, special education staff, and students/parents.

• Oversee the coordination of the initial IEP assessments.

• Assist Special Education Teachers in the development of an appropriate initial IEP that supports students in the least restrictive environment.

• Review assessment reports: analyze student data as it relates to special education eligibility, goals, services, and supports.

• Serve as Admin Designee in initial IEP meetings.

• Supports/Facilitates IEP meetings.

• Assist Special Education Teachers in operating programs that support students in the least restrictive environment.

• Assists assigned staff in the development of IEP instructional goals/objectives.

• Assists assigned staff in identifying other related services for the student.

• Assists IEP teams in facilitating student placement into special education programs/services.

• Conduct semester random IEP audits per teacher.

• Analyze and interpret laws and regulations governing the provision of special education.

• Develop, coordinate, and deliver professional development on a variety of special education-related topics.

• Support with the development and implementation of policy, processes, and procedures in the aforementioned areas.

• Provide direct and indirect coaching support to general education, special education, and parents.

• Track due dates for all IEPs.

• Inform families regarding the special education process and guide parents in participating in the special education process.

• Assist in creating and present parent training.

• Assist in creating informational literature for parents.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS & QUALIFICATION

• Have a working knowledge of curriculum to suggest choices that parents may need to modify their students’ educational program to best meet their individual requirements, as well as provide supplemental materials.

• Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

• Understanding of school policies, including school safety and security procedures.

• Correct English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.

• Understand, adhere to, and be able to explain Excelsior Schools programs.

• Technologically proficient and/or open to the use of technology in the delivery of curriculum and in the management of student data and assessment.

Requirements:
• Florida Exceptional Student Education Certification.
• Master’s degree is preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience in Special Education is preferred.
