Accountant
Fort Wayne Housing Authority (FWHA) – Fort Wayne, IN
Position Summary:
The Fort Wayne Housing Authority is seeking a skilled Accountant to support our financial operations. This role is responsible for maintaining the general ledger, preparing financial reports, monitoring budgets, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. The Accountant will also assist in developing and improving automated accounting systems and processes. Key Responsibilities:

Perform general accounting functions, including budgeting, financial monitoring, and monthly reporting.

Maintain management control and reporting systems to accurately track program costs and ensure HUD compliance.

Prepare financial documentation for audits, liaise with auditors, and monitor audit schedules.

Manage and reconcile general and sub-ledgers, prepare journal entries, and assist with year-end close processes.

Maintain detailed records to support general ledger activities and proper archiving of historical files.

Oversee daily and monthly processes in the Yardi Tenant Accounting module and provide staff training.

Process tenant financial transactions, including bad debt payments, write-offs, security deposit refunds, and account closeouts.

Serve as primary contact for Property Managers on tenant accounting matters for public housing and tax credit properties.

Monitor cash management, cash flow, investments, and ensure timely bank reconciliations.

Assist with year-end financial reporting to HUD and other agencies; prepare reports and support audits.

Conduct special financial analyses and reporting as requested.

Education & Experience:

Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field; Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance preferred.

Minimum 3 years of public sector accounting experience with knowledge of financial control systems.

Combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

Valid driver’s license and insurability under FWHA’s insurance plan required.

Commitment to ongoing professional development.
Technical Skills:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; ability to create, analyze, and interpret financial reports.

Ability to quickly learn and use accounting software such as Yardi.
