Job Description LHH Recruitment Solutions an education organization is seeking a contract Senior Accountant to support month-end close, financial reporting, and higher-level reconciliations. The ideal candidate can operate independently, improve processes, and ensure accurate reporting across multiple funding streams (including grants and restricted funds where applicable). Bill Rate: $40-$45/hr Position Type: Contract Work Setting: Onsite , Philadelphia, PA 19132 Start: ASAP
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and/or support month-end close: journal entries, accruals, allocations, and account analysis
- Perform complex balance sheet reconciliations and ensure compliance with internal controls
- Review GL activity for accuracy and correct coding; identify and resolve variances
- Prepare internal financial reporting packages (monthly reporting, budget vs. actual, variance explanations)
- Support grant reporting and tracking, including expense classifications and documentation readiness
- Assist with audit support: schedules, tie-outs, and documentation for external auditors
- Partner with AP/Payroll/HR on accurate coding, accruals, and issue resolution
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve close timelines
Required Qualifications
- 4-7+ years of accounting experience, including ownership of month-end close responsibilities
- Strong GL expertise, reconciliations, and financial statement support
- Advanced Excel skills (pivots, lookups, data cleanup; strong reporting capability)
- Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and comfort working with minimal oversight
Preferred Qualifications
- Nonprofit, education, or fund accounting experience
- Grants/restricted fund reporting exposure
- Experience supporting audits and building schedules/workpapers
- Familiarity with budgeting support and variance analysis
