Job Type: Full-time, Exempt, On-site, 5 days per week (M-F, generally 9-5)
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Compensation Range: $70k-80k annual salary

Housed in a historic campus in the heart of LA, The Ebell presents public programs, arts and cultural events, community engagement initiatives, and educational offerings, while also operating as a venue for rentals, weddings, and member-driven activities. The breadth of The Ebell’s mission-driven work, combined with its rental income streams, requires cohesive branding and strategic communication across all areas.

The Ebell is entering a period of growth and reinvention, and its staff is rapidly evolving to meet those needs. This position will steward overall marketing and communications strategy for the organization, in collaboration with and guided by the COO. We are seeking a creative, entrepreneurial individual excited by the idea of building new systems, championing a cohesive brand identity and marketing plan, and supporting staff throughout the organization in centralization of marketing and communications functionality. The Senior Marketing & Communications Manager will guide a strategic, integrated marketing and communications effort that unites and elevates The Ebell’s diverse programmatic and revenue-generating functions. This role is responsible for managing brand identity, external communications, digital presence, graphics, advertising, and public relations, ensuring alignment across ticketed events, rentals, educational programs, and membership activities.

The successful candidate will bring a deep understanding of marketing strategy, storytelling, data-informed decision-making, and the technical tools required to engage diverse audiences. They will be a stellar communicator, including both written marketing materials and interpersonal relationship-building. They will collaborate cross-departmentally, manage external vendors (including an external PR consultant), freelancers, and internal team members to deliver cohesive messaging and impactful campaigns.Key Responsibilities: Strategic Management

  • Support in development of and execute a comprehensive, multi-channel marketing and communications strategy that supports mission-aligned and revenue-driving activities.
  • Steward brand cohesion across all internal departments, uniting ticketed programming, membership, rentals, and educational initiatives under a compelling identity.
  • Serve as a thought partner to leadership in setting communications priorities and public engagement goals.

Marketing & Communications Execution

  • Manage and evolve The Ebell’s visual identity, tone, and messaging to ensure consistency and relevance.
  • Write marketing and communications copy and materials that center The Ebell’s brand and support organizational goals.
  • Lead content creation and distribution across platforms including website, social media, email newsletters, and promotional materials.
  • Oversee paid advertising strategies and placements, including digital, print, and outdoor campaigns.
  • Supervise and collaborate with an external PR consultant to drive media relations, press outreach, and earned media opportunities.
  • Coordinate with The Ebell’s other entities to ensure brand alignment and cohesive messaging.

Technology & Systems

  • Lead implementation of the organization’s new CRM (e.g., Salesforce, Neon, or similar) in marketing & communications, focusing on targeted audience engagement, membership communications, and campaign analytics.
  • Utilize project management tools (e.g., Asana, Trello) and editing/design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) to manage timelines and workflows efficiently.
  • Analyze campaign performance data to refine strategy and maximize ROI.

Team & Vendor Management

  • Coordinate with contractors or consultants (e.g., photographers, designers, PR firms).
  • Guide internal stakeholders on messaging alignment and audience engagement best practices.
  • Longer-term, supervise communications and marketing staff members.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of progressive experience in marketing and communications, ideally in arts, culture, hospitality, events, or mission-driven organizations. Experience within organizations with multiple internal brands or functions is a plus.
  • Exceptional writer with demonstrated experience writing effective marketing copy.
  • Nonprofit arts marketing experience; event marketing experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing integrated marketing strategies across multiple program areas.
  • Deep understanding of brand management, audience segmentation, and engagement strategies.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems, project management software, and digital marketing tools.
  • Strong writing, editing, and visual storytelling skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Collaborative leadership style and ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Preferred: experience overseeing internal staff as well as external PR consultants or agencies.
