About the Role:
The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting healthcare providers by ensuring the smooth operation of clinical and administrative tasks within a medical facility. This position involves direct patient interaction, including preparing patients for examinations, taking vital signs, and assisting with medical procedures such as phlebotomy and specimen collection. The Medical Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean and sterile environment by properly sterilizing medical instruments and managing specimen processing. Additionally, this role requires effective communication skills to answer phones, schedule appointments, and coordinate with nurse practitioners and other healthcare professionals. Ultimately, the Medical Assistant contributes to delivering high-quality patient care and enhancing the overall efficiency of the healthcare team.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred.
- Proficiency in phlebotomy and specimen collection techniques.
- Basic knowledge of medical instruments and sterilization procedures.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact professionally with patients and healthcare staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working alongside nurse practitioners or in a similar clinical setting.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
- Additional certifications such as CPR or First Aid.
- Bilingual abilities to assist a diverse patient population.
- Prior experience in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs and recording medical histories.
- Assist healthcare providers, including nurse practitioners, during medical procedures and examinations.
- Perform phlebotomy and draw blood samples following proper protocols and safety standards.
- Process and label specimens accurately for laboratory testing and ensure timely delivery.
- Sterilize medical instruments and maintain a clean clinical environment to prevent infection.
- Answer phones, schedule patient appointments, and manage front desk administrative duties.
- Maintain accurate patient records and update electronic health records as needed.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and facility policies regarding patient confidentiality and safety.
