Position Summary:
The Assistant Manager of Community Engagement will have primary responsibility for the planning and implementation of volunteer projects for all scheduled volunteer shifts. The Assistant Manager will also support the duties of Senior Manager of Community Engagement as assigned. Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Community Engagement, they will work interdepartmentally with Food Acquisition, Warehousing and Logistics, Nutrition, and Distribution to ensure a quality experience for volunteers, while meeting the production and project needs of GBFB programs. The Assistant Manager represents GBFB in a positive and professional manner and supports GBFB’s mission to end hunger across Eastern Massachusetts.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Manage volunteer project planning and implementation to meet inventory and distribution needs at GBFB’s warehouse.
- Collaborate interdepartmentally to ensure adequate time for project planning, preparation, and confirmation that inventory levels and distribution goals are maintained as directed.
- Manage daily volunteer operations with respect to greeting, orienting, training, and supervising volunteer projects as assigned by management.
- Maintain daily volunteer communications via phone and email to ensure volunteers receive information in a timely matter.

- Analyze project efficiencies and make recommendations to Senior Manager with strategic and innovative solutions to streamline volunteer tasks.
- Working within Salesforce platform, assist the Senior Manager in creating and maintaining volunteer shift opportunities based on distribution needs of GBFB. Provide additional support to maintain the integrity of the database and reports.
- Adhere to all safety rules and regulations relative to warehouse safety, food safety, and AIB compliance.
- Assist with project setup, ensuring all required materials are prepared for volunteers.
- Clearly communicate project training, answer questions, and ensure projects are completed during assigned shift(s).
- All other duties as assigned by management.
Skills & Qualifications:
- High School degree or equivalent (required), Associate degree or equivalent work experience (preferred).
- 3 to 5 consistent years of related experience, demonstrating a commitment to providing quality customer service.
- Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and communication skills including public speaking and group training.
- Ability to lead large and diverse groups of volunteers while providing guidance and specific direction on an individual basis.
- Customer service skills; and a positive and instructive phone manner.
- Proven ability to work in a team-oriented environment as a strong team leader.
- Strong project management and logistical skills required.
- Must be comfortable representing GBFB in a positive professional manner in various arenas.
- Attention to detail and the ability to quickly adapt to evolving needs within the entire production process is essential.
- Ability to be flexible while balancing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent work ethic, achievement oriented, and sense of humor.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to work in an office environment.
- Ability to sit for up to 3 hours at a time.
- Ability to stand for up to 4 hours at a time.
- Ability to lift, up to 30 lbs.
Work Environment:
- Onsite: This role follows a fully in person and on-site schedule. This means incumbents in this role will be required to work each workday from an assigned office work location including GBFB headquarters (70 South Bay Ave) and possibly any other work-related sites.
- The job is primarily performed indoors in a traditional office setting and is expected to work in person the majority of the time.
- The job is occasionally performed indoors in the Warehouse with exposure to outside weather temperatures as well as potentially working in the refrigerated or freezer areas.
