Contemporaries Inc. is a government contracting firm supporting the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in their efforts to hire a Communications Specialist to support executive-level leadership on a full-time, onsite contract. This role is ideal for a polished and detail-oriented professional with a strong background in writing, editing, executive communications, and public-facing content support.
We are seeking a candidate who can confidently manage and streamline communication on behalf of leadership—serving as a liaison between executives, internal teams, and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting federal environments and be comfortable drafting high-level communications, managing correspondence, assisting with speech writing and talking points, and supporting limited web or public communication initiatives. This individual should be proactive, highly organized, and capable of handling sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, edit, and proofread a wide range of professional communications including memos, emails, briefings, reports, and executive correspondence
- Assist with speech writing, talking points, and presentation materials for executive leadership
- Manage and oversee incoming and outgoing communications on behalf of executives
- Serve as a liaison between leadership, internal teams, and external stakeholders
- Assist with web content updates, messaging reviews, or public-facing communication materials as needed
- Provide limited support for communication or outreach initiatives, including reviewing messaging or assisting with marketing-related materials
- Coordinate and manage executive calendars, meetings, and scheduling (virtual and in-person)
- Prepare meeting agendas, capture detailed notes, and track follow-up actions
- Ensure timely responses to correspondence and maintain organized communication workflows
- Review and format documents to ensure clarity, consistency, professionalism, and alignment with organizational messaging
- Support communication tracking, document control, and records management processes
- Assist with special projects related to communications, policy updates, or organizational initiatives
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion

Candidate Qualifications & Profile
- 3–6+ years of experience in communications, executive support, public affairs, or administrative roles with a strong writing component
- Demonstrated experience drafting, editing, and proofreading professional or executive-level communications (memos, briefings, emails, reports, speeches, or talking points)
- Prior experience supporting federal agencies or government contracts is preferred
- Experience supporting executives or senior leadership, including managing communications and acting as a liaison
- Strong writing and editing background with the ability to translate complex or technical information into clear, concise, and professional messaging
- Exposure to web content management, public-facing communication, or limited marketing/outreach support is preferred
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel); familiarity with SharePoint or website content platforms is a plus
- Professional, polished, and capable of handling sensitive or confidential information with discretion
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (Communications, English, Public Policy, Marketing, Journalism, or related field)
