The Greater Manchester Region employs around 2,500 individuals and encompasses Manchester Memorial Hospital, a community facility with 249 beds, Rockville General, a 102-bed campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. This region serves approximately 300,000 residents across 19 towns.

POSITION SUMMARY:

In this role, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care both directly and indirectly. You will coordinate care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, patients, and their families. Effective communication regarding the patient's clinical status is essential, as is the ability to respond promptly and accurately to any changes in condition or treatment response. You will demonstrate an understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan and possess the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the populations served. Additionally, you will promote the nursing profession and professional practice through supportive interactions with colleagues. This position reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Job-Specific Competencies

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments tailored to the specific population, addressing psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural needs.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to create, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for each surgical patient based on assessment data.
  • Adhere to the five rights of medication administration to minimize errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their appropriate use according to the patient's age and clinical condition, while following Surgical Services policies for medication safety.
  • Provide all aspects of patient care in a manner that prioritizes safety and promotes positive outcomes, adhering to policies regarding patient identification and surgical procedures.
  • Document the nursing process and patient responses to care promptly using the designated tools.
  • Exhibit flexibility, organization, and the ability to function effectively under pressure, employing critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation.
  • Practice autonomously in alignment with evidence-based standards, pursuing personal and professional development while serving as a role model and mentor.
  • Understand growth and development principles to provide age-appropriate care, interpreting patient data to identify specific needs.
  • Deliver accurate and relevant reports on patient conditions for safe transitions of care.
  • Prepare surgical rooms efficiently with all necessary instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment for each procedure.
  • Maintain aseptic technique throughout surgical procedures, identifying and addressing any breaches in technique with the surgical team.
  • Communicate effectively with the surgeon regarding the accounting of sponges, needles, and instruments, reporting any discrepancies immediately and documenting all counts accurately.
  • Handle, label, and process specimens correctly.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the scrub role.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program and hold a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
  • Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required upon hire.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior experience in surgical settings or labor and delivery, particularly assisting with C-sections, is mandatory.
