Job Description

The 503A Production Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in FarmaKeio’s industry-leading custom compounding pharmacy operations. Reporting to the Pharmacist in Charge and Pharmacist on Duty, the Production Pharmacy Technician is responsible for processing compounding paperwork, accurately compounding medications, and maintaining compliance with federal and state pharmacy laws.


This position also includes maintaining the pharmacy work area and equipment, supporting patient care through effective communication and documentation, and assisting with shipping and inventory tasks to ensure timely and accurate product delivery. By upholding FarmaKeio’s Core Values and Operational Guidelines, the Production Pharmacy Technician contributes to delivering high-quality, personalized pharmaceutical solutions to practitioners and their patients.

Responsibilities:

Pharmacy Operations

  • Comply with all applicable federal and state pharmacy laws and regulations, ensuring all tasks are performed under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Input and verify patient and prescription information accurately, adhering to state pharmacy laws and company SOPs.
  • Assist pharmacists in contacting patients regarding medical information, prescriptions, and refill needs.
  • Interact politely and effectively with patients, practitioners, and other stakeholders to maintain strong professional relationships.

Compounding and Preparation

  • Prepare and compound medications accurately and efficiently, following established protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain and clean compounding equipment and the pharmacy environment to meet regulatory standards.
  • Create and print master formulation records, compounding records, and labels under pharmacist supervision.
  • Check the records or compounded products prepared by others to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Shipping and Receiving Operations

  • Package and prepare completed products for dispensing or shipment, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
  • Receive and document incoming drug and supply shipments, ensuring proper storage and inventory control.
  • Assist in the management of shipping inventory to maintain adequate stock levels and prevent discrepancies.

Documentation and Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate records of compounding activities, inventory transactions, and shipping documents in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all documentation is reviewed and approved by a licensed pharmacist as required by state pharmacy laws.
  • Assist with updates, edits, reviews, and additions to procedural documentation to maintain relevance and accuracy.

Inventory Management

  • Assist in managing pharmacy inventory, ensuring adequate stock levels and accurate records.
  • Conduct regular inventory checks and assist in resolving discrepancies.
  • Receive and reduce to writing refill requests as appropriate.

Training and Mentorship

  • Provide training and support to new pharmacy technicians and staff to ensure proficiency in daily operations.
  • Manage, train, and provide feedback to new and existing staff members to enhance team performance.

Safety and Cleanliness

  • Uphold and enforce safety protocols to ensure a secure and compliant work environment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to all regulatory and company standards.
  • Clean and maintain the compounding environment and equipment to meet quality standards.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to enhance pharmacy workflows and suggest process improvements.
  • Provide suggestions to improve customer service, company systems, or processes.
  • Demonstrate the company’s Core Values and Operational Guidelines in all daily activities and decision-making.

Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Collaborate with pharmacists, practitioners, and other team members to ensure seamless operations and patient satisfaction.
  • Communicate effectively to address and resolve operational issues and improve service quality.
  • Assure prompt and positive action on all questions, concerns, and suggestions.

Qualifications:

Physical Requirements

  • Close visual acuity is needed for computer work and reading.
  • Frequent use of hands for keyboarding and handling small components.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and sitting; prolonged standing may be required.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Regular verbal and auditory communication is required.
  • Limited exposure to hazardous substances; safety protocols minimize risk.
  • Reasonable accommodation is available for individuals with disabilities.

Educational Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certified pharmacy technician in good standing in the state of New Mexico.
  • Prior shipping and receiving experience preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy operations, including inventory management and shipping processes, is a plus.
  • Experience in a regulated environment, such as a 503A or 503B compounding pharmacy, is highly preferred.
  • Basic understanding of FDA regulations, USP standards, and cGMP principles is beneficial.

Safety and Compliance

  • Employees must adhere to all OSHA safety standards to ensure a safe working environment, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to infection control procedures.
  • Adhere to all New Mexico State Board of Health regulations, laser safety protocols, and FarmaKeio standards.
  • Safeguard patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA guidelines, ensuring that all patient data is handled securely and appropriately.
  • Complete mandatory HIPAA training and stay updated on privacy and security policies.
  • Report any potential HIPAA violations or data breaches immediately to the designated compliance officer.
  • Maintain a commitment to continuing education to stay updated on best practices and innovations in the field.
