Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Dr. Abid Hussaini's laboratory at the Nathan Kline Institute in Orangeburg, NY, is seeking a highly motivated Computational Research Scientist. Our lab is at the forefront of unraveling the neurobiological mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, with a specific focus on Alzheimer's disease (AD). We leverage cutting-edge techniques, including in vivo electrophysiology, cognitive testing, and optogenetics, in mouse models of AD. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of neuroscience, computer science, and bioengineering, directly contributing to groundbreaking research in neurodegeneration. The successful candidate will play an important role in developing and implementing advanced computational methods for complex experimental data analysis and applying advanced machine learning algorithms to large-scale datasets.

Interested candidates should submit a detailed curriculum vitae (CV), a cover letter describing your research experience, scientific interests, and career goals and contact information for three professional references.

JOB DUTIES:

- Design, implement, and optimize robust Python-based data analysis pipelines, including GUIs and data visualization methods, for large-scale in vivo electrophysiology and behavioral data.
- Integrate machine learning algorithms into data analysis workflows and troubleshoot technical issues related to data acquisition and analysis systems.
- Assist in the design and implementation of novel experimental paradigms, ensuring meticulous record-keeping of all experiments, analyses, and results.
- Train and mentor students and staff on software tools, contributing to a collaborative research environment.
- Actively contribute to manuscript preparation, grant writing, presentations at scientific forums, and stay current with the latest developments in computational neuroscience.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

- A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Neuroscience, Physics, Mathematics, Bioengineering, or a closely related field.
- Strong proficiency in Python, with proven experience in signal processing and data analysis.
- Solid understanding of experimental design, statistical analysis, and proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong problem-solving skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative research team.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with electrophysiological data analysis.
- Familiarity with machine learning techniques, particularly those applicable to neuroscience data (e.g., neural networks, dimensionality reduction, clustering algorithms).
- Knowledge of systems neuroscience, particularly related to neurodegeneration.
- Prior experience in a systems or computational neuroscience research environment.
- Publications or presentations at scientific conferences.
