Mercury Electronics has a challenging opportunity available for a talented, enthusiastic and motivated Purchasing Manager. reporting directly to the President. We are seeking an outgoing individual, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in our fast paced, dynamic environment. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Managing a staff of four to five Purchasing Agents
- Assigning daily work tasks and monitoring results/outcomes
- Maintaining team efficiency by ensuring standard processes are established, controlled, and properly documented, and staff members are trained
- Assisting in hiring staff, developing employees to maximum potential and resolving HR situations within the department
- Promoting and supporting ongoing teamwork and communication within the department
- Monitoring purchasing operations, identifying potential problems, and recommending solutions for issues that may prevent on-time delivery to our customers.
- Controlling cost and expenditures for raw materials, supplies, equipment and services required to support manufacturing and operations
- Developing an approved and certified supplier base
- Maintaining and developing supplier relationships
- Selecting suppliers that best meet our needs for total cost, timely delivery, quality materials and services, responsiveness, reliability, technical competence, and capacity
- Pursuing cost reductions, delivery and service improvements
- Negotiating purchasing agreements and contracts to include; inventory programs, performance expectations, payment terms, etc.
- Evaluating supplier performance, meeting with suppliers to discuss performance issues and establishing improvement objectives
- Resolving pricing or quality disputes and discrepancies
- Locating new suppliers and evaluating them
- Conducting periodic supplier visits and audits
- Aligning our purchasing practices in support of strategic and operational business plans
- Ensuring that purchase orders, claims and contracts comply with company policies, regulatory statutes, and laws
- Ensuring that departmental business is conducted in an ethical manner
- Ensuring that all purchases are made within approved signature authority guidelines, including high dollar value and/or highly complex purchases
- Maintaining purchasing documents and records
- Coordinating with suppliers, other departments and customers
- Participating in ISO audits, LEAN activities, etc.
- Looking for new ways to improve our products, services, and lead times through supply chain
- Improving company efficiency by suggesting, planning, testing, and implementing departmental process improvements
- Acquiring and maintaining an in-depth operational knowledge of the current software systems utilized by the department
- Keeping senior management informed by analyzing and summarizing reports and information
Qualifications/Requirements:
Candidate qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Minimum of two years in a supervisory role
- Minimum of three years in Purchasing
- Highly organized, detail oriented and able to prioritize work
- A proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with internal and external contacts at all levels of an organization
- Ability to motivate and lead direct reports and coworkers toward common corporate goals and objectives
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Experience with the following software is required:
- Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word & PowerPoint)
- Databases and/or ERP systems
- Experience with the following preferred, but not required:
- Manufacturing companies
- Electrical or electronic components
- Import/Export documentation and processes
- ERP software migrations
- filePro databases or Epicor ERP
- ISO, LEAN and ITAR
- Candidates must have ability to occasionally work extended hours
