Job DescriptionPosition Overview
The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) delivers direct rehabilitative care in speech therapy to patients following a physician's referral, adhering to all relevant laws, regulations, and organizational standards.
Education, Experience, and Licensure Requirements
- Must have graduated from an accredited speech therapy program (minimum MS or MA in SLP).
- ASHA certification (CCC) is required, or eligibility for a 9-month Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) to obtain ASHA certification and meet credentialing criteria. Maintenance of ASHA credentials is mandatory once obtained.
- Current registration or licensure in the applicable state is essential, with an obligation to keep the license active and in good standing throughout employment.
- Preferred: At least one year of experience in a post-acute care or similar environment.
- CPR certification is required upon hiring or must be acquired during orientation, and it must remain current throughout employment.
Specific Job Responsibilities
- Engage in community health initiatives and projects as appropriate.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email communication.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and support departments to effectively address patient needs.
- Exhibit proper body mechanics consistently.
- Demonstrate the ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
- Possess knowledge of relevant practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines governing operations in a post-acute care setting.
- Implement and interpret departmental programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
- Perform competently in all required areas, including patient rights, safety, and sanitation.
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, vendors, and others.
- Ensure confidentiality of all proprietary and sensitive information.
- Understand and adhere to organizational policies, including those related to harassment and compliance.
- Exhibit integrity and professionalism by following the organization’s Code of Conduct and completing mandatory compliance training.
Essential Functions
- Establish, evaluate, and adjust realistic, measurable, timely, and functional goals.
- (For SLP CCC only) Supervise and assess care provided by SLP CFYs.
- (For SLP CFY only) Follow speech therapy treatment plans under the guidance of the supervising SLP CCC, in accordance with federal and state regulations.
- Document patient progress accurately and in a timely manner.
- Utilize therapy software effectively and accurately.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive attitude towards patients.
- Assist in the safe evacuation of patients when necessary.
- Demonstrate reliable and consistent attendance.
- Employ reasoning skills and sound judgment in various situations.
- Communicate effectively and collaborate productively within an interdisciplinary team.
- Engage in physical activities such as sitting, standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, walking, reaching, and moving intermittently throughout working hours.
- Read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language proficiently.
