Job Title: Lead Respiratory Therapist

Location: Monmouth Medical Center

Department: Respiratory Care

Job Status: Hourly

Shift: Night

Salary Range: $46.99 - $57.62 per hour

Pay Transparency:

This salary range represents the expected hourly pay for this role in New Jersey. The final compensation for the selected candidate will be influenced by various factors, including their educational qualifications, skills, and professional experience.

Job Summary:

The Lead Respiratory Therapist evaluates patients' pulmonary conditions, collaborates with physicians and nursing staff to create care plans, and administers respiratory treatments. This role also involves reporting any safety concerns, such as hazardous conditions or medical errors.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • AA/AS degree is preferred.
  • Must hold a valid New Jersey license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • RRT Certification from the NBRC is required.
  • BLS certification is mandatory.
  • Certifications in PALS and NRP must be obtained within the first year of employment for all staff, both full-time and part-time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Comply with documentation standards, contributing to a comprehensive care plan that includes input from patients and families, and is interdisciplinary.
  • Document interventions in a retrievable format that aligns with the care plan and expected outcomes.
  • Assist in maintaining a multidisciplinary teaching record, ensuring patient and family comprehension of prescribed therapies.
  • Take responsibility for reducing patient length of stay through timely clinical interventions and delegate follow-up respiratory treatments to appropriate team members.
  • Engage daily with a multidisciplinary team to develop and monitor the overall respiratory care plan for patients.
  • Work with the team to establish teaching and discharge planning requirements for each patient, ensuring desired outcomes are met.
  • Collaborate with RNs to reinforce the care plan with patients and their families on a daily basis.
  • Assess treatment appropriateness and initiate therapies such as MDI, HFN, CPT, and aerosol treatments.
  • Conduct thorough pulmonary histories and assessments during initial and subsequent therapies.
  • Perform intubations in emergencies and extubate per physician orders.
  • Manage the transport of ventilated patients and oversee their care.
  • Participate in monitoring patient care outcomes based on established targets and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in quality monitoring processes to identify variances that may extend patient length of stay.
  • Assist in the orientation of new associates to the service areas.
  • Execute techniques and procedures for processing ABGs.
  • Provide cardiac monitoring within the scope of practice.
  • Respond to cardiac arrest calls and perform life support measures.
  • Act as a preceptor for new Respiratory Therapists in the unit or central department.
  • Utilize mentoring skills to enhance the knowledge and clinical skills of team members.
