The Controller is a key financial leader responsible for overseeing the organization’s accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls. This role provides strategic financial guidance to leadership, ensuring the effective utilization and safeguarding of the company’s financial assets. As a member of the management team, the Controller contributes to organizational planning, policy development, and major financial initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation and accuracy of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Ensure timely and reliable financial reporting to executive leadership and external stakeholders.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, audit, and tax requirements.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors and financial partners.
- Lead and develop the accounting and finance team, fostering accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee core accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
- Provide leadership and oversight of payroll operations to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
- Lead and manage key finance-related initiatives and cross-functional projects, such as banking relationship changes, system implementations, process improvements, and policy updates.
- Evaluate and enhance financial processes to improve efficiency, scalability, and controls.
- Partner with senior leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
- Provide financial insight and guidance to support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Monitor financial performance, identify risks and opportunities, and recommend corrective or growth-oriented actions.
- Support organizational goals by aligning financial practices with broader business objectives.
Essential Skills
- Proficient in financial management including accounting, budgeting, financial planning, auditing, and receivables control.
- Experience in transformation projects and process improvements.
- Strong skills in general ledger management, reconciliation, month-end closing, journal entry, and financial reporting.
- Thorough understanding of financial statements, accounts receivable, balance sheet management, and audit processes.
- Expertise in bank reconciliation and maintaining compliance with financial regulations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 5+ years of experience in a Controller role.
Work Environment
The work environment is a corporate setting within a major hospital, with an accounting team of over 20 people. The role is primarily Monday to Friday with potential for late hours, particularly around the month-end close.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hudson, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $64.90 - $76.92/hr.
