Position Title: Staff Accountant

JOB SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES

  • Performs general accounting and other related duties for the organization.
  • Maintains the general ledger.
  • Reconciles bank accounts, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
  • Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts.
  • Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
  • Assists accounts payable with vendor reconciliations and other tasks as needed.
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
  • Prepares, posts, verifies, and records customer payments and transactions related to accounts receivable.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND/OR SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting.
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE / ATTRIBUTES

  • Minimum of associate’s degree in accounting or finance OR three years’ experience with either accounts payable or accounts receivable posting.
  • No experience necessary with associate’s degree or higher.

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will spend their time in an office environment with a quiet to moderate noise level. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
