Job Description\n
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift ICU position requiring recent critical care experience and strong EKG skills.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
- Position is in an acute care ICU with CVICU, COVID, Medical Surgical ICU, and Progressive Care Unit beds under the critical care service line
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:1-2 in ICU based on acuity and staffing, and 1:3-4 in PCU
- Patient population includes post-surgical, cardiac, neuro, detox, respiratory failure, COVID, and complex critical care cases
- Specialized procedures include CRRT, IABP, Impella, TAVR, VAD, STEMI, PCI, CEA, chest tubes, art lines, SWAN, EVD, manual proning, and vent weaning
- Uses Cerner EMR system
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts, with four weekend shifts per pay period and first to float
- Floating required to PCU, MST, and other critical care units as needed
- RNs are responsible for reading their own telemetry monitor strips using Nihon Khoden monitors
- Required to titrate all critical care drips, including pressors, paralytics, sedation, antiarrhythmics, and anticoagulants
- Responsible for interpreting arterial blood gases and supporting vented patients
- Travelers may take fresh open heart patients if experience allows and corresponding skills are validated
- No nurse aides provided; the RN works collaboratively with intensivists, house supervisors, and NP support
- Intensivists are present in-house 24/7; respiratory therapists cover all areas but may not be in ICU at all times
- Scrub attire is any professional color (no camo), transitioning to navy in October
- Orientation includes 8 hours general hospital overview and 1-2 unit-specific shifts with a preceptor or buddy RN
- Holiday coverage required, including one winter holiday and the eve of another, but not all holidays
- Traveler may be placed on call for low census situations, typically no more than once every 6 weeks
\n \n Requirements\n
- Active AZ or Compact RN license required at the time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
- Valid BLS and ACLS certifications required upon consideration
- Must possess strong EKG interpretation skills and experience with titrating critical care drips
- Experience with ventilator weaning and troubleshooting required
- Preferred experience with IABP and Prismaflex CRRT
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with a minimum 80% score within two attempts prior to contract
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Cannot have held employment (FT, PT, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past 12 months
- Two professional references required, including one from a supervisor within the past year
