Job Summary
The Associate Actuary will assist the Actuarial Model Steward team with maintaining the actuarial models used at F&G and managing the governance and controls around the actuarial model change management process. This responsibility includes maintaining comprehensive model documentation, and overseeing model change management activities subject to a rigorous model governance environment, and collaborating with the F&G actuaries across the company.
Organization
This position will be part of the Actuarial Models team and work with actuaries from various areas within F&G, Internal Controls, Risk teams, as well as Internal Audit and external auditors. This role will report to a Production Lead on the Model Steward team.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with various teams to understand required changes to Corporate AXIS models used for valuation, pricing, inforce management, ALM, and planning purposes
- Execute the steps to roll the version-controlled model forward on a monthly and quarterly basis
- Performing control work on the version controlled model
- Work with actuarial model users to ensure understanding and compliance with the actuarial model governance policies and change management procedures
- Ensure model development and integration best practices are followed during all stages of an actuarial model lifecycle
- Review of actuarial model documentation, including change requests, and technical integration instructions
- Functions as a subject matter expert in Actuarial and Actuarial Model Governance concepts
- Contribute to the preparation and act as an active participant in Actuarial Model Governance Meetings
- Maintain comprehensive model documentation and make improvement recommendations to processes and documentation
- Mentor and train more junior team members
- Collaborate within the Actuarial Models team and with actuaries from different areas of the company
- Demonstrate knowledge of actuarial concepts and processes
Experience and Education Requirements
- ASA designation preferred.
- Bachelor's Degree preferably in Actuarial Science, Math, Statistics or other related area
- 2+ years of experience with actuarial models required
- Familiarity with life insurance and/or annuity product knowledge is required
- Experience in formal controls and working with auditors is preferred
- Understanding of actuarial projections and interactions between various product features and actuarial calculation results
- Experience with Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrate ability to apply actuarial principles to complex situations
- Strong working knowledge of actuarial modeling systems and model governance required
- Moody's AXIS experience preferred
- Possess strong technical skills including understanding of software development, testing, and life cycle management processes
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Able to work and communicate effectively with employees at all levels from various areas within the Company
- Strong problem-solving skills that include advanced analytical and reasoning abilities, and ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously
- Self-starter who demonstrates strong initiative and is able to operate efficiently in unpredictable and challenging project environments
- Team player who has the ability to function as a key member of a small group, with demonstrated ability to proactively identify areas for improvement

- Regular and punctual attendance
- Some travel required (less than 10%)
