Join NYCSBUS as an Operations Analyst, A role focused on building, maintaining, and improving operational tools that support workforce management, fleet operations, and performance monitoring.
NYCSBUS is seeking an Operations Analyst to provide a direct link between technology and day-to-day operations at NYCSBUS. The role requires balancing analytical expertise with operational knowledge to ensure that data is applied effectively in decision-making across departments. On a daily basis, the Analyst works closely with HR, Finance, Service Delivery, and Fleet teams to scope and deliver analytics projects, maintain operational tools, and uphold standards of data governance. The position also contributes to the monitoring of key performance metrics, supports the adoption of new technologies, and assists staff in applying data solutions to operational challenges.

NYCSBUS (NYC School Bus Umbrella Services Inc.) is a not-for-profit corporation that provides school bus transportation services to New York City public and private school students, the majority of whom have Individualized Educational Programs. It operates more than 800 school bus routes throughout all of NYC with a staff of approximately 1,800 people from six locations with a budget of $218 million. NYSCBUS’s goal is to radically improve student bus transportation by innovating in all areas and by providing unprecedented transparency in bus operations to school districts that outsource this service.
KEY WORK RESPONSIBILITIES BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
Strategic Partnership & Analytics Delivery (30%)
- Collaborates with HR, Finance, Service Delivery, and Fleet leaders to translate requirements into well-defined analytics projects.
- Delivers accurate and reliable analyses that inform operational and strategic decisions.
- Prepares business cases and communicates findings in a format accessible to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Rapid Prototyping & Technology Adoption (20%)
- Designs and tests new tools and approaches to improve workflows.
- Introduces and documents prototypes that can be scaled and adopted across the organization.
- Evaluates the use of Generative AI and other technologies to support operational needs.
Operational Tools & Technical Support (20%)
- Maintains and improves existing tools that support workforce management, fleet operations, scheduling, and payroll accuracy.
- Provides technical support to staff using operational systems and addresses system-related issues.
- Identifies process gaps and implements solutions in collaboration with operational teams.
Data Governance & Compliance (15%)
- Establishes and maintains practices to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of operational data.
- Conducts audits and enforces standards to promote high-quality data use across departments.
- Ensures that practices align with compliance requirements, including data privacy and regulatory standards.
Performance Monitoring & KPI Development (10%)
- Defines and monitors KPIs that measure service delivery and operational efficiency.
- Conducts performance reviews and identifies root causes for operational issues.
- Benchmarks results against organizational goals and industry standards.
Additional Responsibilities (5%)
- Participates in cross-functional projects that involve operational and analytical expertise.
- Provides training and support to staff to increase understanding and use of data and related tools.
- Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service delivery.
- Ensures that operational practices align with compliance and risk management standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the role.
QUALIFICATIONS | JOB COMPETENCIES:
- Eligible to work in the U.S.
- Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics or Operations Management
- Experience with low-code/no-code platforms such as AppSheet; 2–3 years of hands-on application preferred.
- Familiarity with SQL and/or data visualization platforms (Looker Studio, Tableau, Power BI); 2–4 years of experience working with reporting or dashboard tools.
- Exposure to geospatial tools, API-driven workflows, or cloud-based platforms; 1–2 years of relevant exposure or project-based experience.
- Professional background in logistics, transportation, supply chain, workforce management, or related areas; 3–5 years of operational experience required.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets (complex formulas, macros, pivot tables, queries, dashboards); 3–5 years of demonstrated experience.
- Experience in payroll operations, scheduling, or precision logistics; 2–3 years preferred.
- Knowledge of project management and change management practices; 2–4 years of relevant experience applying structured methodologies.
- Experience using Generative AI tools responsibly to enhance work outputs; 1–2 years of applied use in professional settings preferred.
- Strong ability to collaborate across departments and maintain effective working relationships; 3+ years of cross-functional team experience.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical staff; 3–5 years in roles requiring stakeholder-facing communication.
- Attention to detail with the ability to deliver results under tight deadlines; demonstrated track record across 3–5 years of professional work.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $90,000 - $95,000
- Comprehensive benefits including health coverage, paid vacation, paid holidays, and PTO.
