DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR


Department: Development
Reports To: Chief Operations Officer (COO)
Status: Salary, Exempt, Full-Time
Pay: $82,000$110,000 (DOE)
Schedule: Primarily office hours with event flexibility as needed (occasional evenings/weekends)
Location: On-site within a shelter environment plus local off-site donor meetings and events


Design and lead our development strategic plan


Family Promise of Spokane (FPS) is hiring a Development Director to design and execute our development strategy andlead a real team (youre not a department of one). This is a hands-on leadership role for a strategic relationship-drivenfundraiser who can strengthen major gifts, annual giving, grants, corporate partnerships, and signature campaignswhilehelping build a culture of philanthropy across staff and the Board.

Growth-stage organization: Build systems and diversify revenue to take FPS to the next level
Real team leadership: Lead a 5-person development team.

What youll own

Fundraising strategy & performance: Build and run annual + multi-year plans aligned to organizational
priorities; use forecasting, dashboards, and reporting that leadership and the Board can rely on.
Major gifts & relationship management: Manage and grow a major gifts pipeline (qualify, cultivate, ask, steward).
Partner with the CEO/COO and Board to open doors, prepare proposals, and close gifts.
Annual giving & retention: Lead donor journeys that improve retention, upgrades, and recurring giving.
Collaborate with Marketing/Communications to align messaging and measure results.
Grants & institutional funding: Lead a grants strategy and calendar (submissions, reporting, compliance
coordination).
Corporate partnerships & sponsorships: Build and steward mission-aligned sponsorships and corporate
relationships.
Signature campaigns & events: Provide leadership for key fundraising moments, including Ungala and Match
Madness, ensuring strong donor experience, net revenue, and follow-up.

Success looks like
A clear fundraising plan, calendar, and forecast cadence leadership can trust

A healthy major gifts pipeline with consistent movement and results
Improved donor retention and growth in recurring giving
Signature campaigns/events produce strong net revenue and measurable donor conversion
What youll bring
Required
5+ years of progressive nonprofit fundraising experience with demonstrated results
Major gifts experience (portfolio management, cultivation/solicitation, stewardship)
Working knowledge of grants (strategy and proposal/reporting coordination)
Strong written/verbal communication and relationship-building skills
Comfort using a CRM and metrics (dashboards/forecasting) to drive decisions
High ethical standards, confidentiality, and professionalism
Preferred
Supervisory and/or cross-functional leadership experience
Strong Spokane-area network and community ties
CFRE or advanced fundraising training
Experience in homelessness prevention, housing stability, or human services
