Job Description

Dwight-Englewood School

Math Specialist

Dwight-Englewood Lower School is a place where teachers encourage children to embrace every aspect of childhood while paying close attention to student academic growth and progress. Faculty understand the importance of balancing direct instruction with more open-ended inquiry, and they bring this perspective to their planning and work with students. In addition, faculty observe and assess students both formally and informally in all subject areas to plan instruction for whole groups, small groups and individuals.

The ability to listen and work with a diverse community and a range of learners, as well as humor and humility, are essential. Dwight-Englewood encourages faculty to practice both the art and science of teaching, and we seek teachers who are excited by the opportunity to do so.

  • Ensure coherence and fidelity to the math scope and sequence, as well as instructional excellence, across all grade levels in the Lower School.

  • Provide direct math instruction to small groups of students, offering targeted reinforcement or enrichment based on the students’ needs.

  • Serve as a member of the Student Support Team, collaborating with colleagues to identify student needs, plan support strategies, and coordinate communication with families.

  • Maintain detailed records of student progress, including assessments and anecdotal notes, and contribute brief, well-written summaries for inclusion in formal academic reports.

  • Attend and contribute to parent meetings, offering clear and thoughtful input about student learning and development.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (completed or in progress) in mathematics, special education, or general education

  • At least three years of experience teaching mathematics at the elementary level, with a demonstrated understanding of developmental needs and learning profiles

  • Strong knowledge of the Primary Mathematics curriculum or other Singapore Math programs and the underlying pedagogy, including concrete-pictorial-abstract progression and problem-solving strategies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and families

  • A commitment to ongoing professional growth and a willingness to participate in school-wide initiatives and interdisciplinary collaboration
