Job Description
This role leads commercial carpentry and remodeling projects in a major institutional setting in Washington, DC, with a strong focus on drywall finishing and finish carpentry. You will oversee day-to-day field activities, ensure work meets high quality standards, and coordinate closely with subcontractors and tradespeople to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Responsibilities
- Finish drywall to a high standard, including taping, mudding, sanding, and final preparation for paint or other finishes.
- Oversee and manage commercial remodeling projects from start to finish, ensuring work is completed on time and to the required quality standards.
- Perform or coordinate framing, drywall, tile work, cabinetry, and other general remodeling tasks as needed.
- Lead and direct carpentry crews on site, providing guidance on methods, sequencing, and quality expectations.
- Collaborate with subcontractors, tradespeople, and clients to maintain clear communication and ensure smooth project execution.
- Review work for compliance with local building codes, safety regulations, and internal company standards.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve on-site challenges quickly and effectively to keep projects on track.
- Monitor progress and adjust work plans as needed to meet project milestones and deadlines.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment at all times.
- Use appropriate tools, equipment, and materials safely and effectively while protecting surrounding areas in an institutional setting.
Essential Skills
- At least 4 years of experience in drywall finishing in commercial or institutional environments.
- Strong proficiency in drywall finishing, including taping, mudding, sanding, and surface preparation.
- Hands-on experience in finish carpentry, including detailed trim and interior finish work.
- Experience working with metal stud framing in commercial construction.
- Ability to oversee and manage remodeling projects, including coordination of multiple tasks and trades.
- Solid understanding of local building codes and safety regulations relevant to commercial construction.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve on-site construction issues efficiently.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with subcontractors, tradespeople, and clients.
- Ability to maintain a clean and organized job site while managing multiple ongoing tasks.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Additional carpentry experience beyond drywall and finish work is a plus.
- Experience with general remodeling tasks such as tile work and cabinetry installation.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and take ownership of project outcomes.
- Experience working on large-scale or institutional projects is beneficial.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Washington, DC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
