Job Title: Extrusion Machine Operator

Job Description

This role operates compounding extrusion machines used to extrude polymer materials in a fast-paced, controlled manufacturing environment. You will set up, run, and monitor single-screw extrusion machines, support packaging activities while equipment is running, and help maintain a clean and safe work area. The position offers the opportunity to become cross-functional in other areas and work with high-tech 3D printing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate compounding extrusion machines used to extrude polymer materials according to established procedures and safety standards.
  • Set up extrusion machines, including loading and unloading spools of material and preparing equipment for production runs.
  • Operate single-screw extrusion machines with minimal direction while maintaining consistent product quality and output.
  • Monitor machine performance during production, make basic adjustments as needed, and promptly report issues or abnormalities.
  • Assist packagers with packaging of cartridges and other products while machines are still running to maintain production flow.
  • Lift up to 20 lbs on a regular basis and up to 50 lbs on a periodic basis as part of material handling and setup tasks.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment around machines and in the broader production area.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment such as respirators and suits.
  • Develop cross-functional skills in other areas of the operation to support overall production needs.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of experience in a machine operation role in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience operating extrusion machines or similar production equipment.
  • Ability to operate single-screw extrusion machines with minimal direction once trained.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with production machinery.
  • Capability to lift up to 20 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs periodically.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures and using personal protective equipment correctly.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience with extrusion machine operation is highly beneficial.
  • Production, compounding, or plastics processing is an advantage.
  • Willingness to become cross-functional and learn additional processes and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision once trained.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability in meeting production schedules.

Work Environment

The role is based in a fast-paced, controlled manufacturing environment with clean, climate-controlled conditions. You will work around compounding extrusion machines and high-tech 3D printing equipment. The position involves regular standing, walking, and material handling, including lifting up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs periodically. Personal protective equipment is required, including a respirator and protective suit, to ensure a safe working environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Eden Prairie, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
