Coding Support Specialist
Pay Rate: $19.50/hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Additional Schedule Notes: Some weekend coverage may be required
POSITION SUMMARY
The Coding Support Specialist supports professional coding teams and Revenue Cycle operations by assisting with charge capture, encounter reconciliation, claim review, and clerical functions. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate coding, billing, and insurance information while maintaining high customer service and documentation standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with daily activities of Revenue Cycle and professional coding departments
- Perform data entry for charge capture within various computer systems
- Review charge forms for accuracy, quality, and completeness using department guidelines
- Assign correct diagnostic and procedure codes for routine and repetitive services
- Identify billable services through medical record review
- Perform encounter reconciliation and assist with resolving billing issues for outstanding claims
- Work practice management system work queues to correct or release suspended claims
- Review and resolve insurance carrier inquiries or disputes
- Update, modify, and verify patient registration and insurance information
- Compile statistics, track productivity, and generate reports as needed
- Provide clerical support including filing, research, and documentation
- Proofread work for accuracy and attention to detail
- Travel may be required based on business needs
- Perform other related duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong understanding of medical terminology
- Ability to visually proofread work and identify errors
- Strong organizational, analytical, and data entry skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Strong customer service orientation
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Preferred 2–3 years of office or clerical experience
- Preferred 6–12 months of healthcare, registration, or data entry experience
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (MUST HAVE)
- Prior patient registration experience
- Prior Epic system experience
- Healthcare clerical experience
- Strong computer skills
