CNC Setup Technician
Location: Shelby Township, MI
Schedule: Full-Time, Monday–Friday (day shift, overtime may be available)
Pay Rate: $25.00 – $27.00 per hour
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced CNC Setup Technician to support production by performing setups, program management, and tooling maintenance for CNC turning and milling operations. This role is hands-on and critical to maintaining efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement on the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform CNC machine setups and changeovers between various production parts.
- Upload, manage, and maintain CNC programs to ensure accuracy and consistency across active production jobs.
- Suggest and implement improvements to reduce cycle times, tooling costs, and scrap rates.
- Monitor tool wear and recommend adjustments to extend or optimize tool life.
- Write, implement, and maintain lathe gantry programs.
- Manage CNC lathe tooling area, including spare part ordering and organization.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and routine machine/tooling checks.
- Train team members in CNC turning and milling best practices.
- Maintain work holding fixtures, including ordering spares as necessary.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist with troubleshooting machining issues.
Qualifications
- Minimum 7+ years of CNC machining experience.
- Hands-on experience with Fanuc CNC controls.
- Ability to read, edit, and write CNC programs (M and G code).
- Skilled in lathe bar and insert setup, tool geometry, and offsets.
- Proficient in chuck and collet setup, including runout checks and initial setups.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T and blueprint reading.
- Experience with Murata lathes and VMC setup/operation.
- Ability to read CMM reports and use precision measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, etc.).
- Familiarity with advanced manufacturing techniques and tooling management.
