Senior Radiation Therapist
Location: Galveston, TX
Pay Rate: Starting at $59 hour (based on experience)
Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Dean's Professional Services is seeking an experienced Senior Radiation Therapist to join a leading oncology department in Galveston, Texas. This onsite, weekday role offers exceptional compensation, long-term stability, and the opportunity to provide clinical leadership while delivering advanced radiation therapy services in a high-quality patient care environment.
Position Overview
The Senior Radiation Therapist serves as a clinical and technical leader within the radiation oncology department. This role is responsible for the accurate delivery of complex radiation treatments, oversight and mentorship of staff therapists, and collaboration with physicians, physicists, and leadership to ensure the highest standards of patient safety, quality assurance, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Accurately operate radiation therapy treatment machines and CT simulators to deliver prescribed radiation doses
- Rotate across all therapy units and simulation equipment while adhering to established protocols
- Interpret and implement complex physician prescriptions and computerized treatment plans
- Generate, maintain, and audit electronic treatment records and documentation
- Ensure strict compliance with radiation safety standards for patients, staff, and trainees
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and clinical oversight to staff therapists and students
- Monitor patient status during treatment; withhold treatment when clinically indicated and escalate concerns appropriately
- Educate patients and families on treatment procedures and expectations
- Support machine performance monitoring, commissioning, calibration, and quality assurance activities
- Collaborate with medical and physics teams to ensure accurate dose delivery and field setup
- Assist with workflow coordination, scheduling, and patient throughput
- Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives, policy development, and procedure refinement
- Represent the department in meetings as delegated by leadership
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional treatment environment
- Participate in annual performance benchmarking and evaluations
Qualifications
- Associate degree in a science-related field or graduate of an AMA-accredited Radiation Therapy program
- ARRT certification in Radiation Therapy (required)
- Active Texas Medical Board license in Medical Radiologic Technology
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience as a Radiation Therapist
- Experience with Varian radiation therapy equipment
- Certification in Computed Tomography (CT)
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and clinical decision-making skills
