Position Summary:
The Senior Accountant oversees the recording of all financial transactions to ensure accurate quantitative and timely information on Habitats financial position, liquidity and cash flow capability and project fund reporting. Ensures company compliance with all tax regulations, non-profit fund reporting requirements, and government and other grant reporting responsibilities.
Supervision Received:
The Senior Accountant works under the direction of the Director of Finance.

- Perform monthly bank reconciliation
- Record biweekly payroll and benefits transitions
- Record restricted funds transactions monthly
- Achieves a clean annual audit
- Performs monthly close activities in a timely manor

- Pursues and completes professional development opportunities
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, & Skills):
- BS in Accounting or relevant degree, CPA or CMA a plus
- Minimum three or more years nonprofit accounting experience and/or training
- Strong knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) rules for nonprofits
- Knowledge of accounting software; database software; payroll systems
- Advanced Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word
- Possess initiative, integrity, attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills
- Time management, decision making, and analytical problem-solving skills required

Physical / Mental Demands:
This position requires some bending, lifting, carrying up to 20 pounds of office supplies, ability to use standard office equipment and sitting for long periods of time while working at a computer.
Working Conditions/Environment:
Work is in an office environment and does not require travel. A hybrid work model may be available after training with partial work at home and in an office environment. Hours are typically Monday Friday, 8:30 AM 5:30 PM. Office located in Greensboro, North Carolina. Occasionally early morning or after-hours meetings are required
Key Competencies & Essential Functions:
Deposits/Accounts Receivable
- Verify, prepare and record payroll and benefit transactions
Cash Management
- Assist in timely Cash Management between accounts (transfers, releases, etc.)
- Reconcile Bank Accounts
- Reconcile asset & liability accounts
Monthly Close
- Compute and record monthly restricted fund releases
- Manage and prepare all accounting transactions to ensure GAAP, FASB and Non-Profit compliance and substantiates with supporting documentation
- Provide support for Accountant for month-end closing
- Month-end review of general ledger activity for accuracy
- Provide Director of Finance support as needed in monthly financial statement prep
Reporting
- Generate monthly financial reports for Directors through Excel based reporting system, including Departmental Budget to Cost reports and Cash Flow forecasts
Audit and Tax
- Assist with preparation of annual audit schedules and act as primary point-of-contact for auditor requests
- Prepare and review of annual tax returns
- Assist in annual budget preparation as needed
- Provide support for annual audit
Other
- Uphold the mission, vision, and values of Habitat Greensboro
- Promote an environment where staff, volunteers, and homebuyer safety is a high priority
- Serve as a resource to Habitat Greensboro staff on accounting issues and procedures
- Perform special projects at discretion of the Director of Finance
- Maintain confidentiality of financial data and ensure financial security by following internal controls
- Support and adhere to Accounting Controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures
- Update professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops: reviewing professional publications
- Other relevant duties as assigned
