The National Director of Strategy and Marketing job is a senior role focused on leading and executing the company's proposal strategy to win new business in the environmental sector, specifically for projects related to consulting, remediation, sustainability, and engineering services.
Responsibilities include managing the proposal process from start to finish, overseeing a team, developing winning proposals in response to RFPs (Request for Proposals) for complex environmental challenges, and ensuring brand consistency.
This position requires a strong background in marketing, people management, client development, pursuit management, and strategic writing, with a preference for candidates who have experience in the environmental or A/E/C (Architecture/Engineering/Construction) industry.

- Manage the proposal process: Oversee the entire lifecycle of proposals, from initial RFP review to final submission, specifically for environmental consulting, remediation, and engineering services projects, tracking progress, and following up.
- Lead a team: Manage and guide a team of proposal writers and other marketing staff involved in the creation of proposals for complex environmental and sustainability pursuits.
- Develop content: Write, edit, and develop compelling content for proposals, including qualifications materials, resumes, and detailed project descriptions focusing on successful environmental outcomes, innovative technical approaches, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure brand consistency: Maintain brand integrity and quality control across all proposal materials and submissions, ensuring the brand reflects True Environmental's expertise, commitment to sustainability, and technical excellence.
- Strategic planning: Develop and implement proposal strategies, conduct competitive analysis within the environmental services market, and refine the process to improve win rates for key clients and projects.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work with other departments like sales, project management, and technical experts (e.g., engineers, geologists, scientists) to gather information and ensure proposals align with company goals and client-specific environmental needs.
- Project management: Handle multiple projects simultaneously, manage competing deadlines, and maintain strong organizational skills to deliver high-quality, on-time submissions for time-sensitive environmental RFPs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have 10+ years of progressively responsible experience, preferably within the Environmental Consulting, Engineering (A/E/C), or professional services industry, with a proven track record of securing major contracts through strategic proposal development.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and inspire a decentralized, high-performing team of proposal and marketing professionals across a nationwide environmental services platform
- Ability to translate complex environmental, engineering, and remediation technical information into clear, persuasive, client-focused proposal narratives and marketing copy that articulate True Environmental's unique value proposition.
- Expert-level proficiency in MS Office and Adobe (especially Word for long-form proposal documents) and experience utilizing CRM and content management systems to manage a knowledge base of resumes and project descriptions for environmental projects (e.g., coastal resilience, water management).
- Strong working knowledge of established proposal best practices (e.g., Shipley, APMP) and capture management methodology applied to winning high-value public and private sector environmental and infrastructure RFPs.
- Deep understanding of the environmental services competitive landscape, client buying cycles (e.g., government agencies, industrial clients), and familiarity with common industry proposal formats (e.g., SF 330).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint CRM or other relational databases to track business development pipeline, client engagement metrics, and capture data related to environmental project pursuits, ensuring data integrity for strategic decision-making.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex proposal documents, ensuring absolute accuracy in technical and contractual language and adherence to rigorous client specifications (especially government RFPs) and True Environmental's quality standards.
- Familiarity with marketing budgeting, resource allocation, and reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to proposal activities (e.g., ROI on proposal spend, win-rate by market segment)
- Experience linking marketing strategy and proposal activity directly to firm-wide revenue goals for the environmental services sector.
- Proven skill in managing conflict and negotiating deadlines with senior technical staff in a fast-paced, high-stakes environmental pursuit environment.
