The ideal candidate will be motivated to develop and build their personal knowledge and skills to assist with the growth and success of the office. Job Description:
Under the supervision of a Land Surveyor, the Survey Instrument Technician operates and maintains precision surveying equipment to collect accurate field data. This role supports surveys of all types, including precise control networks, topographic mapping, aerial targeting, boundary retracement, ALTA Surveys, and construction staking. Primarily in the field, performing boundary, topographic, and construction surveys.
Duties:
- Assist the Land Surveyor(s) in planning and executing field surveys (boundary, topographic, construction, and as-built)
- Operate and oversee the use of survey equipment such as total stations, GPS/GNSS systems, and data collectors
- Measure and record distances, angles, elevations, and coordinates
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of field data collection
- Perform calculations, verify measurements and data checks in the field
- Maintain field notes, logs, and digital records
- Ensure proper care, calibration, and maintenance of survey equipment
- Enforce safety procedures and ensure compliance with job site regulations
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
Job Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills):
- Minimum Education: High School or equivalent
- Technical training in surveying, geomatics, or related field preferred
- Minimum of three (3) years of land surveying field experience. Up to five (5) years of experience is preferred.
- Proficiency with Trimble GPS and total station, data collection technology
- Ability to perform survey calculations in the field
- Knowledge of surveying procedures and plan interpretation
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
- Ability to carry a minimum of 20 pounds
- Some out-of-town work will be required
- Valid Driver's License, with the ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance carrier

Working Conditions and Environment:
Will need the ability to establish rapport quickly with others working on the same project, and be able to promote a positive team environment. Working knowledge of dealing with a diverse population while using tact, diplomacy, and respect.
